“Full of culture - well done !”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

Although we went at the end of January - the Mission gardens and trees are still pretty. Full of history, it is well done for all ages. There is so much to see and take in. Use the free audio that is given to you when you check in. The exhibits are really well done and very period correct. You can roam at your lesure and there are plenty of benches all through out the grounds to sit and reflect or just enjoy a moment to soak all the history in. Reading others reviews I planned to be there for about an hour and a half - ended up staying over 2 hours and enjoyed every minute. If you are in the area , this is a must stop - also walked the main street and stopped in a very nice antique store full of great things - there are alot of great restaurants to choose from - we went to Fried Tomatoes - loved it - their 1/2 sandwich and tomato soup was a great lunch - also head to the train station area for another nice walk of charming little retail buildings and quaint restaurants.

“Worth A Visit”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

Miossion St Juan Capistrano is a very popular attraction, probably based on the "Song" rather than the impressiveness of the Mission itself. I believe there are other sites on the Mission Trail that are at least as impressive.

That being said, it is interesting, probably worth about an hour and a half to visit. There are several displays of mission artifacts and an interesting, albeit sometimes somewhat confusing, audio guide which is included in the price of admission.

The main chapel was destroyed by an earthquake and what remains is a mix of original stonework, protective material preserving sensitive remains, and modern re-creations. The original floor, for example is covered with fine gravel so no part of it remains visible. I'm sure funding is an issue, but it was, to me, somewhat disappointing.

While it is worth a visit, it is mostly, because of the swallows and the song which have spawned the local industry.

“Always a favorite”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

As a native of southern california, I started going to the mission when I was in grammar school on field trips. It's still a favorite place to go...gorgeous gardens and historic architecture make it a great place to take photos. I have a friend from DC who visits regularly and she always wants to return to the mission nearly every time she's in SoCal.

“A must see to reflect on historic California”
Reviewed January 24, 2014 via mobile

This place is an amazing feat when you consider the age and conditions in which it was built. The original mission is wonderful to explore and offers people a chance to step back in time. Either wander and explore or take a self guide hand-held speaker tour. When in the ruins of the main church consider the size and natural elements that this place has survived...amazing!
