“Worth a visit”

Mission San Juan Bautista
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 16, 2012

This is a nice mission and its worth spending your time here. Interesting exhibits and art of course, like most missions. The chapel is beautiful. I highly recommend going to see the historic buildings right across the street as well. It's separate admission but only 3 dollars! Taken together, the mission, and plaza hotel, and the other historical buildings are wonderful! I actually enjoyed the historical buildings (gave it 5 stars) more than the mission, but that's me. Make sure to check out the main "strip" in this little town, which is a block away. Lots of little shops, ice cream, food, etc... You wont be disappointed. Plan on spending at least 3 - 4 hours to see everything.

Mission San Juan Bautista was founded in 1797 and most of the buildings were completed by the early 1800s. Many parts of the Mission have been well maintained or restored and there is a gift shop and a small museum on the property with items dating back to the start of the Mission and before. Mass is still celebrated daily in the historic chapel, which is adorned with beautiful statutes and artwork. In addition, the quaint town of San Juan Bautista, which surrounds the Mission, has plenty of shops and restaurants to visit. Worth a stop over if you're passing through.

There's nothing bad about it. It's situated in between SJB's tiny but charming downtown and farmland, which depending on the season may be freshly plowed fields or colorful flowers and other striking scenes. The mission itself has a peaceful, very restful kind of vibe that exists even when there are lots of people around. I lived in SJB for a year and miss it regularly. Visiting the mission and the city of San Juan Bautista is a must if you are driving down 101 or visiting California.

This is the best Mission we have seen. The originality of the Mission has been preserved through 200 years. A must see stop for visitors. Just a short detour off of Hwy 101. Side attractions of the San Andreas Fault and the old western town it resides in are a treat for a short visit.

This is the place to go if you are showing visitors a typical California mission. A well-preserved mission in the middle of other state historical buildings of the period.
