This is a good restaurant for all types of Japanese food from sushi/sashimi to bento boxes. We enjoy eating here; service is friendly. Last time I was here I enjoyed their sukiyak and tuna sashimi. They serve green tea ice cream with the meal. Saki is good here.

There is a parking lot behind the restaurant so we can usually find a spot there even during a busy night in Japantown.

I dropped in here for a late night visit after volunteering. I was introduced to this restaurant about 2 months ago and have been back at least 3 other times. Great food, service, pricing and atmosphere. I will be back.

Not all Japanese restaurants are perfect, but to be this bad, really requires some work.

Let's start with the Miso soup and tea - can't really go wrong there, right? Wrong. Both were watery & tasteless. Next, a salad which is often served in americanized Japanese restaurants - swimming in mayo.

Sushi - the only good part, since at least the presentation was nice. Taste? Eh. Next - an udon soup which was overly sweet, with an overly cooked egg inside, rather ruining the whole point of ordering the Nebayaki.

To add insult to injury, the prices aren't especially cheap either, though the portions are american diner sized large.

Basically, the only reason to eat here is the late opening hour.

Diligent servers. Attentive service.

Okayama in San Jose Japantown always have a special place in my heart.

One of those days when you just wanted a decent meal at a really odd hour (late lunch? early dinner?), Okayama is a restaurant you can count on. They open 7 days a week without any 'off' hours between lunch and dinner. That alone deserves a merit.

Having said that, I can't say I am in love with the food. The portion is generous. The food is prepared with care. It's just that the quality of the fish they used for sushi and rolls are only mediocre. The saba was too lean and tuna was a little stringy. Of course, the quality is still more than reasonable for the price they charge. Just don't expect anything fancy.

Very average place. Nothing exceptional at all. The food has not a special taste. The rice in the sushi is over cooked.
They don't dispose the plates when you're finished.
Would not go back.
