“Friendly staff, huge suite!”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We stayed here for a conference - first time at a Fairmont - and found everything to be up to 4-diamond expectations. We were warmly greeted by the bellman, efficiently checked in, and having booked a "Tower suite," found our room to be large enough to move into! There was a small separate dining area (no kitchen), and a nice roomy living room. The closet was walk-in, and the bath had separate tub and shower.

If you join their loyalty program, your Internet will be complimentary. Only a couple minor notes keep this from being top-rated: no electrical outlet near the nightstand for our phone chargers, and decidedly tired furnishings. The bed was comfy with high-end linens so sleep was good. Conference rooms were chilly so bring a sweater or wrap.

Room Tip: Book a suite-AAA rates can be the same for a standard room!

Me and my significant other love to try out new hotels and trying to see which one is the better one to choose from. I remember she had mentioned she wanted to try the fairmont one day, so i wanted to surprise her....Hands down, fairmont has been the best hotel we've stayed at!! The staff is so incredibly nice and generous! i booked the hotel first back in january, i had to switch the date which wasn't a problem thanks to Rachel! I also asked for an early check in and she said it wouldn't be a problem which was good. On the day of check in, i had called and asked what time early check in was, and after a few minutes it turns out my room wasn't ready, BUT instead they upgraded my room and was able to check in early!!!! Thank you Kevin, you deserve a raise!!! The vallet people were nice, bed and breakfast was great, staff were great, and the room was also great!! I'm pretty picky with beds, and haven't had much luck on the previous hotels, but i loved fairmonts bed, i didn't even wake up during the night and was well rested in the morning...It's safe to say WE WILL BE BACK!!! and we're done looking for that "perfect" hotel...I also just applied for the presidents club membership! see you soon fairmont!

Room Tip: choose the south tower!!! but i also believe the main building had newer rooms now

The Fairmont in San Jose is undoubtedly the hotel to stay in when visiting San Jose. DO ask to stay in the new tower, from what I hear from my friends, the original tower rooms are in need of an update. The LOUNGE bar is a terrific place to meet your friends and colleagues; however it can get TOO loud to hold a conversation when they have live music other than from the piano. When ordering a Manhattan, DO ask for Crown Royal! The restaurant is good but do yourself a favour and hit Morton's down the street for a great steak or better yet hit Santana Row for L.B.'s Steak house for a more relaxed atmosphere and a great steak. Back to the hotel... The room I stayed in was a great size, the bed was super comfortable and I'd say everything was terrific with the exception of the shower - the shower head needed to be cleaned so it didn't spray EVERYWHERE and the drain couldn't keep up to the amount of water coming from the shower head... after a 10-minute shower the water starts to overflow the lip on the door. Not terrible, just some maintenance and then it'd be perfect.

If the Fairmont is sold out, call the Marriott. It's the only other nice, clean and updated hotel in the area AFAIC.

The fairmont in San Jose, CA is one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed at. Great location, gorgeous rooms, friendly staff, plenty of high quality restuarants and much more. We liked it so much we are thinking of having our wedding there next year. There are plenty of 4-5 star hotels to choise from in the San Jose area but based on our stay I would have to think that the Fairmont has a leg up on everyone. We will definitely be back here soon!!!

This is really a four star hotel. Very nice rooms and good service. The pool was very nice as well. It felt like it was heated and it gets a good amount of sun being on a roof. The neighborhood is good. There isn't a lot going on but its the best you're going to find in San Jose.

Handled a conference beautifully with terrific staff and truly good food. The gym is not glamorous but it has what you need. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. I Plan to stay at the Fairmont again on my next visit to San Jose.

Stayed here for 2 nights and the weekend rate can't be beat for a nice property in downtown San Jose. As a local, I've been to the property for many events in the conference rooms, but heard the rooms were dated (travelers photos online confirm). After speaking with reservations, I learned some of the rooms were remodeled and booked a double/double recently spruced-up room.

Arrived to check-in and discovered there were no double/double rooms remaining. Reminded me of the old Seinfeld episode where they "can make the reservation, but they can't keep the reservation." After much key boarding, back room negotiations, waiting and phone calls, the receptionist found a d/d and sent us on our way. Arrive to find an ADA room has been given to us. It would have been nice if the receptionist had told us it was an ADA before we made the trek, because ironically, I have a disability which doesn't work to well in an ADA shower. Back to the front desk we go and quickly we are relocated to a d/d right next door to the ADA. Hmmmm.......seemed like they were trying to pawn the ADA room off on someone.

Second room is nicer and bathroom is large. Room has a good view of the mountains and city lights. There is a strong sewer smell in the bathroom, but I assumed it was belching out of the toilet somehow. Spritzed some perfume and called it home for the night. Our neighbors were partying with loud thumping music and no filter on their vocal noise level. Seeing how we had to wake-up REALLY early the next day, I gave them to 10pm, then 10:15pm and then my 16 year old couldn't take it any longer and called the front desk to quiet them down. Security was there in minutes and surprisingly they shut the party down and it stayed down. Sorry for spoiling their fun, but the hotel is shared by others. Kudos to Fairmont security for moving at lightening fast speed.

There are lots of great restaurants in the area and everything is an easy walk. We were at the convention center during the day, so it's a good location and nicer than the Marriott or Hilton which is attached to the CC. I have stayed at better Fairmont properties, but I've also paid well over 3 times the price for those. The rooms have been modernized and they're clean, but the showers, at least in our room, have not been remodeled. They do have great water pressure though. We have a few more conventions coming up and as a Marriott member, it will be a hard choice where to stay next time as a remodeled room at the Fairmont is better quality.

Sewer smell continues to permeate and when we return to the room on the second night there is a small towel over the bath tub drain hole. Apparently, it was placed there by housekeeping during turn down service. The odor must have caught their attention as well. My husband put some water in the tub and closed the drain, spritzed some more perfume and the bathroom was fresh in the morning.

Bell service was great and they kept our luggage for us until the convention was over. Housekeeping did a good job as well. We didn't eat on property as prices seemed slightly ridiculous and there are so many restaurants right out the door. We had a great cocktail at the De Anza hotel in their bar area. Ambiance was fantastic and the architecture is interesting. Il Fornio is always solid for dinner as well and Original Joe's is always popular. I prefer Il Fornio.

For $119/night, it may lure me back in the coming months.
