“Choose a room away from the roof top of the first floor.....”
Reviewed January 20, 2011

it has been remodeled and it clean and comfortable. I am not sure why one would be a priority rewards member just to get a bottle of water and some not as fresh as you would hope trailmix. My view was of a orange cone and dumpster on the roof with a parking lot. There are interesting places to dine withing walking distance and amtrac will deliver you reasonable close.

This is not a 4 star hotel as some of the sites have it listed. The hotel is old and feels it. The hallway to my room smelt of soup and my room seemed to have been doused in air freshener. The carpeting was past its best days. The same for the bathtub. Don't expect fluffy towels or bathrobes or high quality toiletries. This is unmistakeably a 2 to 2.5 star hotel being sold as something much better.

We wanted a nice, quiet hotel at a good value for an impromptu night in San Jose. After getting a fairly good deal on http://Hotwire.com (about $110/night after taxes and $19 garage parking, with an additional $19 for coffee and tea from room service), we were pleased to see the photographs of the hotel on-line, as it had a super-modern updated style.
Once we entered the purported "4 star" hotel, our expectations required a readjustment. There were stains on the elevator and room doors, the hallway carpets had a distinctly musty smell and it sounded as if a frat party was happening in the rooms at the end of our hall. We politely requested to change rooms twice due to party and street noise, but they would not move us higher than the fourth floor despite having rooms available on higher levels.
Luckily, we brought our own earplugs as no "sleep advantage" package was discussed with or provided for us. All three rooms we visited smelled musty, had stained well-worn carpet and one smelled like old cigarette smoke covered with cloying air freshener despite the supposed "non-smoking" status of the rooms. Our bathroom was disgusting, with stains on the walls and bath tub and the drain in the tub didn't work. Gross.
Finally, no robes, complimentary parking or WiFi were provided. When was the last time you had to struggle to cover yourself for room service in a "4 star" hotel?
We use Hotwire as a spontaneous way to explore new hotels we may visit again. We definitely will never stay at the San Jose Crowne Plaza by choice in the future, especially considering the recent post from another Tripadvisor traveler describing his bedbug experience. Eeeek!

Upon checking into my room on the 6th floor, I discovered a bug underneath the sheet. I googled for bed bug pics, and it matched up exactly. I put the bug in a glass and brought it downstairs to the front desk. I also took a picture of it.

I switched rooms, only to find a very noisy hotel throughout.

There was a hockey convention in town, and there were over a hundred teen aged hockey kids running and screaming throughout the hotel. The management failed to separate these groups from the general hotel population, thus making the hotel a large dorm throughout the stay. Constant calls to the front desk did nothing.

I would not recommend a stay here.

We were extremely disconcerted to learn of the feedback from one of our valued Guests. We was made aware of the complaint and immediately jumped into action initiating a thorough investigation and report from our Team Members involved over this particular time period and with this guest.

Our primary concern was the reference to bed bugs, as we are ultra-sensitive and concerned with the widespread onslaught of this problem in US hotels over the past year or so. This guest did exactly what we would have hoped; in bringing the specimen to the Front Desk staff on duty. On Monday morning, we called our pest control vendor and had a representative come out to the hotel to inspect this room for any evidence of infestation. Thankfully we were confirmed bed bug free. The representative took the specimen back to their lab and promptly called to inform us that the pest was, in fact, a carpet beetle. Although relieved that it was not a dreaded bed bug; it is obviously still a concern to have any undesirable in our guest rooms. The carpet beetle does not bite nor sting humans, but nonetheless, we ordered and received a preventative treatment in this room, and a consultation occurred with our Director of Housekeeping to educate him on any further discovery and treatment. To date, we have received no further complaints nor seen any evidence of an infestation. We will continue to closely monitor this.

The hotel staff was great. This hotel is located across from the convention center and conveniently located near the light rail train. The location of my room was near the elevator and due to the hotel being sold out, I was stuck with this room. The heater in my room did not work, so the temperature was cold (I'm from Florida). I would recommend a room facing the train or near the elevator. Overall a nice hotel.

My wife and I were in town to go to the US OPEN in pebble beach. After reading reviews of the hotel I decided to stay here. I am glad I did. The hotel is very nice and clean. It doesnt have a pool, but we were with out kids so didnt matter to us. They do have a 24 hour sauna, which we didnt use either. I was a little nervous after getting to our room and seeing that we were on the "LOUD" side of the hotelas described by others. We were on the 8th floor and barely heard the train going by and every once in awhile we heard the planes fyling overhead, but nothing that kept us up or woke us up.

We got a room that included free parking and breakfast. While the free parking was great, the free breakfast was at best average. It looks really nice when you walk in and see alll the food there, but it was disappointing.

I would stay here again without hesitation. It was a great location and with in walking distance of the downtown scene.

My husband and I decided to spend the night here last weekend at the last minute. We wanted to dine in downtown San Jose and decided we wanted to be able to walk to our accommodations, rather than drive home. We chose the Crowne Plaza because it was located just around the corner from where we had made dinner reservations.

The check-in desk was manned by 3 people when we arrived, with no one else waiting. We were told that as a platinum member, we get free parking, free internet, 2 free drinks at the bar, and free breakfast. I was impressed that they treat their platinum members so well!

In addition, they upgraded us to an "executive" room on the top floor and were happy to honor my request for a quiet room -- which means not facing the light rail stop that is right next door.

The room was nice and big. Air conditioning was pretty loud. The bathroom was small. Decor, etc. was typical Crowne Plaza. Comfy bed; only one bathrobe for two people. Didn't hear others on the floor out in the hallways, slamming doors, etc.

All staff that we encountered -- housekeeping, front desk, bar, server at breakfast, etc. -- were all very friendly and helpful.

We had a very nice stay, and got it at a steal of a price (downtown San Jose must've not had anything going on that Saturday!). We would definitely return here again if we had a need to stay in San Jose.
