“Fogo de WoW!!!”

This Brazilian Steakhouse is not for the timid. If you love meat, then you have found paradise. With at least twelve different skewered meat selections to experience, including their signature prime cut of top sirloin, the taste buds fall victim to succulent, robust, lightly seasoned and juicy moments of decadent dining. My joy is fully expressed in sound effects. You almost can't help but breath deeply and sigh with such savage contentment with every bite. Review the menu for a variety of superbly grilled meat items to get ready for the showdown. I say showdown because the dining experience is limitless. Yes, that's right...it just keeps coming. As long as you indicate with your special place holder, the green side, you can expect to be waited on like royalty. It may appear overwhelming, but you can control your portions, selections and timing of service.
The dining experience includes linen covered table cloths, beautiful flatware and exquisite flower arrangements that grace the salad bar. The wine bar itself is encased in a beautiful glass wall for all eyes and palettes to mull over. The music makes you want to dance, but you can't seem to move. Lighting provides perfect ambiance. Loved the fresh presentation of the salad bar selections, standard and really different choices like the jumbo asparagus and smoked salmon. Didn't even get to dessert. I am a glutton for carnivorous punishment with no apologies. It gets busy and can be a little noisy, but who cares when you are getting fat and sassy...it's the Brazilian way!

“Very nice dining experience”

My son recommended this after our first choice for a restaurant fell through for our anniversary dinner. He chose well...we had a very good time here. It is a bit pricey so make sure you go hungry. As recommended by others, we had to pace ourselves. The salad bar was very good and presented our first challenge to not over do it before the main course(s). The meat was all excellent and almost all servings met my request for medium rare. The filet mignon was excellent, but there are about 16 different meats to try..several more than once. It was quite fun to watch all the waiters racing around the tables serving the meat. It seemed like there were several near accidents. While we were extremely full we did try the Carmelized pineapple which was excellent. Pace yourself! We will certainly be back again

“For Food, Not Conversation”

Our dinner here was part business, part social and I'm not sure this was the best choice. The food was fabulous, but the environment was too busy for conversation. It is very expensive if you don't take the time to try all the cuts of meat. The salad bar was extremely fresh and the choices were varied - not a typical salad bar. The price, of course, did not include beverages, and did not include dessert or shrimp cocktails that were promoted early in the meal.

“Brazilian steakhouse for Celiacs and non-Celiacs alike!”

Gerardo is picture of a perfect manager and ideal customer service. I have Celiac disease and must maintain a strictly gluten free diet. On top of that, my family is Brazilian so we regularly ate at Brazilian steakhouses. The dining experience is unique in that different waiters come to your table with skewers of different meats, some of which are marinated or have breading. I hadn’t been to a Brazilian steakhouse since being diagnosed because the cross contamination risks are so high. But I read about Fogo de Chao (which we used to go to often) and that most of their menu is gluten free. I called and Gerardo was extremely patient and reassuring on the phone. When we showed up, he introduced himself to us while we were waiting for our table (make a reservation!) and came to our table right when we were seated. Our waitress was not the most well-versed on the gluten-free thing (didn’t understand cross contamination and said she could sympathize because she has a strawberry allergy), but Gerardo took care of me the entire meal from seating until we got up to leave. He was like a personal waiter who knew the menu inside out! He marked all of the menu items that had gluten and personally brought me a basket of cheese bread (which is gluten free!). They don’t use soy sauce or flour in the kitchen. All of the meats are gluten free except for the beer-battered chicken (and therefore the sausage, which is cooked on the same grill), but those 2 items are cooked in a separate area of the kitchen from the gluten free meats to avoid cross-contamination. The side dishes are gluten free, too. Just be weary of the salad bar, which has pasta and croutons and bread (but the bread comes from out of house and they put it directly on the salad bar so they don’t contaminate their cheese bread or the oven). I asked for the first cut of each meat, and the waiters came straight to our table so that other customers wouldn’t contaminate the fresh meat. Gerardo checked on us over 5 times, which was so appreciated. Definitely a must-do for Celiacs in San Jose (and probably at any of their locations if you call)!

“Not same as other locations...Iacking value”

Here are my observations..

As someone who has been to other Fogo locations, this one doesn't measure up. The food was good. However, I do think there were less types of meats. The layout of the restaurant is a bit dark, and the cold dishes are located in the far corner. But what really was not a good value were the $16 cocktails, shrimp/seafood was not included. All in, expect it to be about $85 bucks a person including tip. Just seemed to be way too much for BBQ, 1 cocktail, and tip. Soda was by the bottle so each "refill" was another charge, 3 cokes for $7.50?

The San Jose location also brings a silicon valley casual audience. So you don't get people really dressed up, a bunch of shorts and tshirt folks.

The restaurant was not quite at 2/3rds capacity so that's a big sign.
