“Vung Tau 2 Restaurant”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

We had dinner at Vung Tau 2 restaurant on Sunday Sep 4, 2011. Overall, the food was OK and pricey (we live in Orange County, CA, so this may bias our judgement). The service was fast. The restaurant was clean. People were nice and funny; they tried to make their customers happy.

“Great Vietnamese Restaurant - For the Novice and Expert Palate”
Reviewed October 26, 2010

Vung Tau offers a great variety in their menu for all kinds of taste. Two main categories pop out of the menu: Family Style and individual plates. Their food is just like how my mom use to cook.

It's pricey for Vietnamese food if you compare it to the hole-in-the-walls. But you're getting a lot more: Variety, cleanliness, presentation, and service.

“Good Vietnamese good but service needs improvement”
Reviewed March 6, 2009

Over all, this is a good Vietnamese restaurant but service is often on and off (and we have been there several times). Eversince this restaurant has had a face-lift and new decor, the prices have gone up. We did not mind the higher prices, but services were not up to par.

Food: Fairly good authentic Vietnamese food with some of the traditional dishes like: Sweet & Sour Soup with Catfish, Spring rolls, Eggrolls, and some Vietnamese noodles. The night we were there, the Lemongrass baby back ribs were very good (not much meat, but still flavored nicely), the Caramelized Prawns in claypot was a hit. One of us ordered the Grilled porkchop with rice, the porkchop was so overcooked and dry she couldn't even cut it with a steak knife.
Service: not so good, they had many waiters standing there but our water glasses were never refilled. We asked for chopsticks but they gave us forks and knives. They gave us paper napkins (1 per guest), for the prices we paid, paper napkins were a rip-off. The hostess sat us, and almost immediately, the waiter came and asked if we were ready to order. We had not had the chance to read the menu just yet. It was like they want us to eat and get out of there ASAP. All of our appetizers, soup and entrees came at the same time, we had to manage and rearrange our table to make room. The check came before we even finished our dinner.
Ambience: Asian style with bamboo decors, cozy and relaxing.
Noise Level: bearable but can be very lousy during dinner time.

Pros: good Vietnamese food, plenty of street parkings and private lot
Cons: Service is barely tolerable, needs to be improved

Great Vietnamese restaurant. I've introduced all my non-asian friends to this restaurant and they all absolutely love it. This one is better than the Milpitis and Newark location. When in Palo Alto, try their sister restaurant Tamarind. High end and a bit pricey but food and drinks are deeelish!
