My business colleague and I stumbled upon this place while on business in San Jose. It's very close to downtown.

It doesn't look like a lot from the outside. On the inside it looks a bit like a German beer hall - the decor is nice, not terrific.

The wonderful thing about Teske's is the food and the beer! I ordered a Hefeweizen and Wiener Schnitzel. Let me tell you it was terrific. This was the most authentic German food I've found anywhere since being in Germany myself. They have an extensive menu and it all looked great.

The prices are not cheap - they are mostly in the range of $20-25. However, this is not a bad deal at all, because it includes soup, salad, really good bread, and a delicious apple strudel with whipped cream after your entree. The entree was also a very generous portion, by the way. When you consider all that you get for your money, it's worth a slightly higher bill.

If you're craving a taste of Germany or wanting to try it for the first time, I'd highly recommend Teske's Germania.

We made a reservation for my husbands birthday, party of 13. We were seated promptly and then waited at least 30 minutes for our first round of drinks to arrive. The waitress did not bother to listen to what size beer we wanted she brought them all in huge size pitcher-like mugs. But before our drinks arrive the owner stopped by as mentioned we were missing 3 of our party and if they didnt arrive soon he was "taking the chairs to use elsewhere." .. How kind. We drank on the giant beers for another 30 mins or so before we saw our waitress again. She then asked for more drink orders, not dinner. Another 15 mins before new beers show up and then abother 30 mins later - finally we get to order some food. The menu by the way says "$20.00 minimum - no substitutions." .. You arent going to get it your way at Teske's.. In fact we joked about being in a prisoner of war camp for dinner. The beers will make you have a good time as long as the company you're with are fun.
