This restaurant is located in the shopping/dining district of Santana Row in San Jose. We love the area and were excited to try a new place with a snappy looking menu! Decor was fab, waiters seemed very professional, upbeat, happening atmosphere. Alas, service was substandard. We were served oysters pretty promptly, shrimp cocktail followed an hour later! Yes, an hour. And only after the waiter made up some tall tale about the chef not being able to find the shrimp in the kitchen. Then voila, they magically appeared! We were served our entrees 2 hours after we sat down. And not by the waiter, who was nowhere to be found, but by his boss who also had to serve us water and wine. Except for the fact that my steak was way overdone, the food was tasty. To their credit, they did fess up to their neglect and comped a few things on our bill. We would consider going back but maybe not on a Saturday night and only sometime when we have loads of time.

I had dinner on a Monday night at Lark Creek Blue. This is a fairly new restaurant on Santana Row in the space that used to be occupied by Yankee Pier. It is a Bradley Ogden Restaurant, as was Yankee Pier.

The decor has been changed and the place looked a bit more upscale. The menu was fine, the wine list adequate, the service was good enough.

After 5 days I am still not sure how I feel about my meal.

I had blackened catfish with greens (kale as I remember) with bacon...Lots of bacon. So much bacon the vegetable came close to qualifying as a second entree. I am diabetic and work hard to limit my carbs so I asked to skip the "dirty rice" and the waitress said she would give me some extra greens. The total serving did not seem that "extra" to me. The greens were also extremely salty, way beyond my taste.

We were seated quickly and our waitress did a good job. I thought the service out of the kitchen was pretty slow, especially for a night when they were far from crowded.

I picked this restaurant for a gathering of old friends who had worked together in the 1990s. We had a good time and felt like we were treated well. But not one person said anything about their meal being note worthy.

San Jose and Santana Row are blessed with many good restaurants these days. Lark Creek Blue is probably a middle tier entry. I would not pick it again for a special occasion but I would go back if I were on the Row and needed someplace dependable.

The Lark Creek Blue is owned by the same people who owned the Yankee Pier. It was desired that the Lark Creek Blue would provide a more upscale venue that fits in better with the other shops and restaurants at Santana Row. I had always enjoyed lunch at the Yankee Pier, although their dinners were only average and their wine selection was awful, and twice had to send back bottles. So I was glad to see this new face on an old friend.

I brought some foreign visitors to the Lark Creek Blue for a business lunch, anxious to check out this "new" restaurant for the first time. The remodeling is definitely an improvement, and I think that they have accomplished what they set out to do. It was a beautiful afternoon, so we decided to sit outside.

We had ordered the "Whopper - Seafood Tower" as an appetizer for the 3 of us to share, and for entrees we had the Shellfish Gumbo, the Bay Shrimp Louie, and a tomato sandwich special that was available at that time.

All of the food was very good, but the problem we had was the speed of service. After 20 minutes had passed with nothing being brought to the table, I started to look around to see where our server was. Finally, after about 40 minutes, our appetizer arrived. The total lunch took over two hours, which is okay if you have plenty of time with nothing else to do but enjoy Santana Row, but not for a business lunch.

I will definitely go back to the Lark Creek Blue, but when it's a business lunch, I think I'll go to a place where the food arrives at the table much more quickly.
