“Good food, HUGE servings”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Come hungry cause the portions are delish & are big. I came in a group of 4 & we all had a chance to try each others food & everything was good. They have a bar as well that is full of locals. Expect to wait a while to be seated. You must try it out

“Wonderful Casual Steakhouse”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

I can't say enough about this casual steakhouse. It's a wonderful from the way the business is organized, plus they deliver excellent steaks at reasonable prices. Every time I return, I relieve my college days when this used to be one of my regular haunts to escape dorm food. It looks like it would be an ideal spot for Hockey fans since it's located near the Shark Tank Arena. The bar has a traditional and inviting feel about it. Definitely will be back . . . again and again.

“Fabulous Old School steakhouse”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Get ready to wait, and that's half the fun. The crowd the night we visited was 90% Sharks fans and they hiked to the stadium for the game, leaving us and lots of other customers comfortably ensconced in the bar, enjoying the parade. You take a number and when that number is called, you place your order. When your order is ready you are seated and served. It's an efficient and effective method of moving lots of people through. Steaks were wonderful, My Mom and i shared a filet and baked potato--more than enough food. The bread is heavenly, of course, as you would expect. Very nice little salad with excellent homemade dressing. We ordered a side of mushrooms which were great. No desserts! This is the kind of place you find in New Orleans or any other old town with a great menu and tradition. I'll go back. Safe and convenient parking.

“Great Local Flavor and I'm not Ribbing You!”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

Please pardon my pun. Couldn't help myself. But onto the review.
This is a fine/fun choice for ribs, draft beer and atmosphere. This trip was my second to Hi-Life and it will be my regular place when leaving the airport.
Had great ribs, tasty sides and good local draft beer. Haven't been there for the hockey games but I can imagine it's a hoot. Should be on your San Jose `Bucket List'!

“Best Down Home BBQ in the Valley”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

This is a hidden gem for great BBQ in the Valley. Get the whole American experience in this down to earth tavern on the corner of a random area in San Jose.

Location: On some random shady street in downtown San Jose.

Food: Great BBQ. No fancy menu, just meat. The full rack of ribs just fall off. They cook it right there on an open grill right near the dining room. Plenty of beers to choose from at the bar inside.

Atmosphere: Very American BBQ style complete with picnic tablecloths. Great for tourists who want to experience a traditional American dining experience. The menu is written on the wall, the place is in a tavern which reaks of authenticity.

Service: Good service. They take your order first while you wait for a table and grab a few drinks at the bar. We got our food 5 mins from sitting down at our table. Waitstaff was very friendly. Very down home country hospitality.

Value: Very reasonable for the great quality.

Occasions: Good dining place with friends. Also great if you are brining foreign visitors on business to the area. They take large parties, so you could do some celebrations here as well.

In summary if you are into BBQ, then this is a must visit when you are in the area. One of the more authentic feeling restaurants in the area.
