“Busy place, but disappointing meal”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

I visited Original Joe's on a recent business trip based on both Trip Advisor reviews and the hotel concierge's recommendation. The place was packed on a Wednesday night (typically a good sign), so I grabbed a seat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. As it turns out, watching the chefs prepare the food was the highlight of the evening. They can really turn out the orders. It was impressive to watch.

Unfortunately, the meal was only so-so. I ordered the steak pomme frites. It was prepared to order, but it just wasn't that flavorful. The side of spaghetti was good, but nothing special. I hope this was an anomaly (and based on the crowd, it could have been), but I was disappointed.

“A relic for a not so old fart”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

It's an old style restaurant with leather booths and waiters in tuxes. Food is old style with good steaks and chops, pasta as a side dish, hearty soups and huge club sandwiches. I love the place but my daughter was not impressed. She would rather go to a restaurant with a famous chef. Restaurants like these are getting harder to find. I will miss it if it closes.

“Family Lunch”

The food was poor at best. Everything else is good. It was interesting to look at all of the old photos on the wall.

“If you want real Italian...”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

I have been eating at Original Joe's for over 25 years! The service is very good. The waiter's are dressed in tuxedos, the dress is casual for patrons, and the food is excellent. Portion sizes are large, no matter what is ordered. The bread is crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Rosemary infused olive oil and balsamic are tableside, and butter is also served with the bread. It is the only restaurant where I order the meat sauce for spaghetti, it is delicious! The menu is large, anyone could find something they love on it. I had the grilled, fresh salmon, split a side of fresh steamed veggies with my husband, and was extremely full halfway through. A definite do not miss if in San Jose. Original Joe's is fantastico!

“Great location and open until late”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

I arrived at the Hilton Hotel at 2130 on a Sunday evening and they recommended this restaurant as it was open until late. I had the crab salad. This had lots of crab meat, all shelled so no wrestling with crackers etc. The salad had boiled egg, avocado, cucumber, tomato, huge stoned green olives, lettuce and Italian dressing. Superb - it looked massive but was soon finished off. I had an excellent glass of a local sauvignon blanc. The bill came to $23, not including wine.
The restaurant was busy even at that time and had a great buzz to it. Thoroughly recommended.
