We had never been to a murder mystery dinner theater before, so didn't know quite what to expect. At first when we were seated and read the tips, I wasn't sure it was going to be as fun as it sounded. Then one of the actresses came to our table, and the fun began. We enjoyed the interactive activity. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and he was chosen to be one of the suspects. We were given so many clues, but it was not easy to choose who we thought the murderer was. The food was very good. The regular price is a bit expensive, but we bought tickets on Groupon for half off. This is fun to do with friends.

We decided to go to the Dinner Detective Murder Mystery in San Jose as we got a deal on www.goldstar.com. It included a commemorative coffee cup with one's ticket. I would estimate that about half the room was there on the deal.

The Dinner Detective plays at different locations. In the case of the December 2014 San Jose event it was held at the Hilton Hotel. The dinner consisted of green salad, roll, main dish (we ordered the fish which was salmon), and dessert. Coffee and water is also served. There is a bar set up in the room where one can purchase drinks. Dinner was good.

I found the price/value if one purchases through the deal on goldstar was good.

The show itself was fun, but I have been to other dinner detective shows. Acting was ok, not great. Also, its much more fun when more than just one person guesses or comes close to guessing who the actual murderer was. In this case, only one of about 100 plus guests guessed - and as such, I felt like this showed some quality problems. It should be competitive enough so that several are correct or very close to being correct as part of the fun is leaving these events feeling like they have really been a detective. I thought they did this to limit the prize to one which was also a coffee cup which we had already gotten through the goldstar deal. The winner also got a T-Shirt.

It would also be more fun with a group of people such as a work or group event, or as a family reunion as this particular show relies a lot on talking to a group of 100 plus people to try to figure it out.

Yes, one has three plus hours to do so but with the acting, dinner, the poorly xeroxed clues they hand out, its difficult to do so. Note: I thought the clues were interesting, but if you are going to pass them out, please be sure one can read them. The one with all the names of who had "died" was clearly illegible and no one at our table could read it in spite of how hard we tried. Was this intentional or just another example of the quality of the show?

We parked across the street at the city lot for $7 for the evening.
