I've been fortunate to have traveled to 37 countries and six continents (soon to be all seven in February), so I was totally shocked to find this truly gorgeous church in downtown San Jose ... I mean, who would have thought???? It's totally "beautimus!"
And I understand The Choral Project (a wonderful San Jose-based choral ensemble) is presenting Canadian Brass there on January 28, 2014. Can't wait to get tickets for that concert ... it will be a totally magnificent sound. Wow!

The outside of this church was gorgeous , but walking inside , it was spectacular . It is quite small , but has so much to enjoy . We were lucky enough to visit just before the Spanish mass began . The band was setting up and sounded great . Vendors were selling their traditional snacks on the street . My 13 year old mentioned it was really cool , he felt like he was in a foreign country . It was a wonderful experience for both of us .

This church is just beautiful! Its circular design is unique for a Catholic church. It was also the first non-mission parish built in California so it has some unique history.

This beautiful Basilica is a must visit even if you are not Roman Catholic. The art inside the church is magnificent and any art lover will enjoy it.

You can walk in and there is usually people walking around. I have visited this cathedral twice, once was 2 years ago and then again this past March. This time when I went, there was a school group and they were getting a tour and presentation from the parish priest.

There is also a well stocked gift shop. I highly recommend this gift shoppe to any needing any religious items. They have a variety of rosaries as well as baptismal gifts. They don't have any baptismal outfits but rather candles, gift sets, picture frames, etc.

They also have a number of items in Spanish. They also have a card selection for weddings, confirmations, baptisms, sympathy and even cards to recognize priests on their ordination anniversary. I also must add they have a small section of Irish gifts. I purchased a beautiful shamrock with an inspirational Irish message.

For non-catholics there is also inspriational souvenirs with words like peace, hope, love, faith, etc.

All in all, I recommend a visit. The only draw back is that they have a food giveaway program for the needy on certain days and times and the day I went this month, the homeless were hanging around the gift shop area but they were minding their own business.
