The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum was one of my son's favorite places to go as a child, even having a birthday party there. Though it is somewhat odd to see an Egyptian museum in San Jose's Rose Garden area, it is quite impressive and interesting. The relatively small museum has both facsimiles of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including mummies, tour of a King Tut's tomb, etc., as well as more modern art gallery. Well worth a short visit that is very inexpensive.

This is a hidden gem in San Jose. If you want to introduce your child to history other than technology, this is the place. There are artifacts and replicas of ancient Egypt that your child will be fascinated by and at the end of the tour they can get involved in the arts and crafts, helped by the museum guides or play an ancient game. You can also tour the garden behind the museum.

The Rosicrucians have built and filled a museum that literally takes you to ancient Egypt, including a walk through a tomb. The artifacts are well displayed -- several mummies, everyday items, art and religious artifacts. And all this comes to life when your guide and interpreter lead you from room to room. The grounds are a beautiful park, secluded from neighbors, an oasis in the city. This is a perfect stop for a few hours while in San José, but the tomb could frighten young children (pre-schoolers) and is not for claustrophobics. For all others, this is a must see.

Why wait for the King Tut exhibit to come back to the bay area. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is a great place to take kids and adults of all ages. It is small enough to hold the attention of young children, and not tire out seniors. The best part is going into the mock up tomb. Warning some children migh be scared to go in tomb, but is is Ok there is plenty for them to see. The entrance is spectacular. Don't forget to take your camera to take a picture out front. Take a stroll throught the gardens. I have not made it to the planetarium yet but it is on my list of things to do.

It took me years to finally go to The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and I'm sorry I waited so long. This is a very well maintained museum with beautiful exhibits. My grandson loved the mummy room and was very happy to find docents available to answer his many questions.

The different rooms house artifacts that explain the history, culture and people of Egypt in an easy to understand format. The museum may be smaller than others but the learning opportunities are many.

The Museum also has beautiful grounds with many fountains and statues. It's a peaceful place to sit and relax. Children enjoy playing on the grounds, too.

If you are visiting San Jose make sure to stop by this hidden gem.
