Very cool house - interesting for the whole family! The movie "Winchester" is based on this true story of the history of the man who created the rifle and his widow who never stopped building.

I've been here twice, once in college (15+ years ago) and on a business trip in Nov 2018. I had a lot of fun - took both the regular tour and the behind the scenes tour. Glad I did - had a lot of fun. Would take the tour again next time I'm in SF area.

Interesting place to visit. Makes for a great pit stop on a road trip. Although not as spooky as the movie it’s an awesome place to check out all the hidden spaces, crazy stairwells, and mysterious halls.

If you are thinking about touring the Winchester house arrive early in the event you may need to wait to fit into a time slot. They can only fit 26 people per tour due to size of the rooms and passages you travel through. We spent an hour walking the grounds outside while we waited to begin our tour. It was late afternoon when we started our tour. We saw a beautiful sunset from our view on an upper balcony. The story of Sarah Winchester is fascinating, and her exceptional home makes for an interesting tour. Dress warm- there is limited heat in the house. Our guide, Jim,was informative and enthusiastic about the history. The hour waiting to start was worth it!

This was an interesting adventure. The guides do a good job explaining the history of the time period and the tragic losses that Sarah endured. The guides focus more on the everyday life at the mansion & constant construction than any spooky happenings - although a couple ghosts are mentioned along the way. A bit pricey at $40, but we enjoyed the adventure and learned a lot! The mansion tour takes just over an hour, and we opted to pay an additional $10 for the "Explore More" tour which goes into the basement and explores the front part of the mansion that was boarded up after the 1906 earthquake. That was about another hour. There is a firearms museum on the estate that is free.
