Description: Left Bank is an authentic Parisian-style brasserie located in San Jose's vibrant Santana Row, a place to see and be seen. Open since 2003, Left Bank transports guests to a quaint brasserie in Paris, where diners feast upon classic French cuisine in a charming brasserie setting along the boulevard, where people watching is at its best. Inside, the wonderful energy of an authentic French brasserie is in the air. The large, casual elegant main dining room offers everything from a family table of 20, to a quiet, romantic table for two. Our Happy Hour is the perfect time to join us for a bite and libation while on the patio or at the bar. The open exhibition kitchen provides onlookers a window into the magic our chefs create. Whether simply sipping a pastis or enjoying a full meal, diners capture the true feeling of the Rive Gauche in Paris.

We've eaten at this location periodically since they opened. If you have time to sit on the patio and people watch this is a great place. They have delicious plates you can snack on over a couple hours.

It can be very loud when busy inside. The service attitude is hit-or-miss, and often the food is slow. This particular visit we were a party of 4 inside, seated around 2p.m. on a Saturday. Not exactly prime time, we expected more expeditious service and were getting pretty antsy, even after eating our escargot appetizer and bread. The restaurant was maybe 1/2 full. For the prices they charge the service absolutely needs to improve. Drop the snob, train the front of the house better, and get the food on the table in a reasonable amount of time or the price isn't worth it.

The food is really good. I had spinach salad and mussels. Service was a bit slow, but maybe because they were so busy. The place is very popular and can get quite loud.

I had a business meeting & immediately ordered a dozen oysters. I asked the server what kind of oysters they were. His response was 'i think they come from the ocean'. Really? You think? When the oysters 'from the ocean' arrived they were about the size of my thumb. I have smallish hands. They were all black & looked like they had been dead for days. We each ate one, 17 minutes later our waiter came back & said 'ill be right back with your wine ', which we ordered before the oyster slugs. I said to him that these oysters are black, shriveled and smaller than an almond. Get this, his response was "well you ate some so maybe I can get 2 oysters taken off', even though we only at 2. The bread is served cold, like it's stored in a chiller. Better than that, they serve those little butter patties wrapped in foil & these are frozen!!! You literally have to put the butter in your hands & rub for about 10 minutes. Or try your armpit.
The oysters we had him throw them out. The bread had the texture of a shoe from the 30's
And frozen butter? Pull your head out. Do they serve cold & frozen butter on the right side of the river Seine? Poor untrained servers with a chef whom obviously does not check his food when it arrives. How come your servers don't know what oyster are. And when someone orders oysters the servers next question should be ' would you like a glass of Champagne or sparkling wine to enhance the oysters?
