“good food, friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We tried Selma's when it first opened in San Clemente several years ago and learned that it is similar to BJ pizza which was our favorite pizza at the time(not anymore). We then liked selma's even more than BJ's pizza for the fact that they use fresh tomatoes instead of canned, and they use freshly shreded parmesan cheese instead of the canned, ground parmesan cheese used at BJ's.
The quality at selma's started goin down slowly throughout the years, and we were disappointed a couple of times so we stopped going there until yesterday's visit. We thought the quality of the food has improved as well as the menu offerings. The service was very friendly and impressive, the waiters shared caring about the customers even though they were not assigned to their table, we must have been asked at least five times how we were doing, or if we needed anything....very impressive, unlike Nick 's across the street where the servers care more about their tip than the service. We would certainly recommend Selma's for a nice meal, especially the thick crust pizza...delicious!

We were so happy that we decided to give this restaurant another chance , and the food was even better than before.

“Very subpar food....”

There isn't anything special about Selma's. If you have a family to feed (and don't mind the higher prices), this will fit the bill. Kids will love the carbs! Salads are the safest bet for adults. Nothing special here, just run of the mill filler food.

“Slow service; salty pizza”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

We chose this place since it looked very kid friendly and we had two small children. We ate outside and the staff was friendly, but service was slow. I do understand that it takes a while to cook deep dish pizza so I wasn't too bothered. However, if you're very hungry definitely order an appetizer. Another thing I didn't appreciate is that the waiter didn't share that they had happy hour specials and we could've ordered some at half the cost.

also, the pizza was very salty. it was disappointing since we waited so long for it. The prices are reasonable for San Clemente.

“Good pizza, slow service.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

The lunch special is good, which is a deep dish pizza, for about $5 bucks! The pizza tastes great, fresh ingredients, not super full filling, but, a nice inexpensive lunch bite. Sat on the patio, which is very nice and relaxing. Except, you rarely will see your server. Not very attentive, you seem to be waiting for a long time for a refill, see you are doing, etc. Overall, not a bad place to grab a bite.

“Great restaurant in San Clemente”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

We were sightseeing in San Clemente and happened to stop at Selma's Chicago Pizzaria for lunch. How fortunate we were! I had the veggie sandwich, with Provolone cheese, avocado, green peppers, black olives, fresh basil, tomato, oregano, and mayonnaise (skipped the red onion, personal preference). Served with homemade chips (like potato chips/crisps) and a side of pasta salad. My husband had the Sesame Chicken Salad, with romaine lettuce, sesame seeds, red peppers, green onions and toasted pine nuts. Topped off with marinated chicken, toasted wontons and Selma's sesame dressing. He also ordered a personal size Chicago style peppeoni pizza. We were seated on the patio on a warm, July afternoon and the service was outstanding. What a lovely afternoon!
