If you are looking for decent food that is relatively inexpensive - especially for San Clemente, served in a casual setting, this smallish Italian restaurant just off the main street of Del Mar is an option. Street parking is available, but on the weekends, you'll have to look a while. Limited outdoor seating is available on a small patio.
A recent Saturday night visit found the place about 1/3 full, with one large party of dads and kids and several other tables occupied with couples. Service was prompt with water and menus arriving quickly. The menu is full of traditional Italian dishes, and pizza is also available. There is a small selection of beer and wine, along with soft drinks.
Complimentary bread is served with a good marinara, served warm, for dipping.
Dinner comes with soup or salad. I started with the minestrone, rather non-descript. My partner had a house salad, which was fine, He had Fettuccini Alfredo for his entree. Sauce was plentiful, although a tad runny, and lacking in big flavor, as if made with the wrong ratio of mile to cheese. My choice was Chicken Bow Tie, which also featured artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomato, kalamata olives, mushrooms & red onion, which was ok, but could have been better. Pasta was undercooked and the sauce hadn’t had a chance to really come together.
On a previous visit we shared a pizza, and it was tasty. Crust was thin and sauce was tangy. Toppings were fresh and abundant.
Service throughout the meal was attentive. Water glasses were kept full and more bread was brought upon request.
We skipped dessert. Dinner and tip for two was under $40.00.
Italian Cravings also delivers.
