“I love it at the pier of San Clemente”

Not only do you have ample parking (Paid) but you also have a walking trail that takes you almost tight there. A beautiful trail along the ocean. Their are two restaurants at the base of the pier. Fisherman's. One on the right is for getting your drinks on and the other on the left is for experiencing some seriously good seafood while sitting inside or out. Gorgeous vistas from either side inside or out. I just love it there. Peaceful and beautiful with heat lamps for chilly times and umbrellas for bird times. They have a wonderful happy hour that satisfies the taste buds just right. Great waiters. This particular part of the beach is where the Iron man and surfing competitions are held. Clean and beautiful.

“a must”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

San Clemente is one of those last sleepy beach towns in Southern California. With the cliffs, the train and the downtown street of Del Mar there is always something to do. You definitely need to get out on the pier and enjoy the sunset from the Fisherman's restaurant. The water is right under your feet! After dinner stroll out and enjoy the sunset from the end of the pier. Then turn around and look back at the mainland and the beautiful rolling hills and buildings of charming San Clemente!

“Relaxing Pier walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The pier is charming and is an excellent stroll after enjoying some of San Clemente sights and restaurants. There are places on the pier to eat. Ideal for a drink or snack but not for a fine meal. San Clemente is relaxed and beachy vibe, different from it's more trendy coastal communities of Laguna Beach and Newport.

“Pier & Pier Bowl”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The San Clemente Pier is one of the centers of San Clemente. There are several restaurants in the pier bowl. Not to mention fishing, surfing and sunbathing.

One of the busiest restaurants is the Fisherman. The Fisherman is split in two by the pier. They have two sides. The Bar side and the sit-down restaurant side. I prefer the bar side of the Fisherman. I think the food is better and much more reasonably priced. The drawback is that seating is first come first serve outside, and can be hard to find during busy summer nights.

“San Clemente”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

San Clemente has a charm all of its own. Several places are worth visiting, and people do by the hundreds during peak season. You have downtown with so many white buildings is a perfect match for a renown beach town. Downtown is filled with different types of business, some unique and worth discovering, so taking a stroll is always a fun thing to do. Numerous eateries are also present, some better than others and might make sense to yelp each and everyone, to avoid a bad meal, sort of speak. Specialty shops with typical beach items, head shops for those who like the unusual, clothing, surfboards, there is just too many to name, and most of them are congregated in a small area.
Then there is the water, and there as well many food places to choose from. The pier is always attractive to most of us who by definition love the ocean and its ways. Swimming could also be fun but it might take finding an early parking space if not staying close, and feeding enough coins to keep the vehicle legally safe. Picnics are not a bad idea, for in the end one and their loved ones end up eating much better and healthier than paying the high prices which are the norm around the beach, excepting perhaps a couple of slices of pizza and a soda.
Good advice for those who would like to eat in a fancy restaurant right by the pier is to yelp, google, urban spooned, so as to avoid regrets later.
Once the decision is made to spend the day enjoying the crowded beach, is comforting to know the public restrooms can be found, and showers as well. Just bring a selection of beach chairs, plenty of suntan lotion, an umbrella or wide hat if the sun is particularly demanding on the body that day. Lifeguard stations are strategically located, and these guys know what they are doing so swim with confidence, if not total abandoned for caution is always the best policy in any type of current.
Yes, a fun day can be had, if one prepares and avoids silly moments, specially when hunger hits after a refreshing splash in the ocean. At night is also very picture like, and the sea breeze becomes more dominant making the ambiance nice and fresh. For those who want to have fun nothing is going to stop them, and San Clemente could very well be worth a day of fun and discovery, with a nice cold Pacific Ocean swim as almost mandatory part of the festivity. Like most things California in the heat of the summer, expect plenty of other folks with basically the same idea, and remember the saying: "Early bird gets the worm". Have fun and think safety first in general and you are almost guaranteed to enjoy the day.
