Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport
Ranked #4 of 13 Hotels in San Bruno
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 18, 2007

We choose the Staybridge Suites in San Bruno to stay for a wedding being held at the nearby Westin on the other side of the airport. We ended up paying a $135/night, which wasn't bad since a family of four can easily stay in a two-bedroom suite. It was not the cleanest place on Earth, but it was effective. Also, all rooms have exterior entrances (which was a problem when lows are in the 20s).
The location is good since you are in between San Fransisco and Silicon Valley, near the 380 and 101. The hotel is near a mall and soem other shopping, so the area feels nicer than it probably is. The BART station is nearby and we did use it to go into San Francisco. Overall, the hotel is worth the price and not more or less.

We stayed here in early October for 4 days over a weekend in a 2 bedroom unit on the 2nd floor. First, the positives. The rooms are decent and a good value for the money. We requested a crib, and it was set up when we got there. Unlike many other hotels they don't give you a flimsy pack n play, they set up an actual crib that is very sturdy. The units were clean and functional, and parking was plentiful each night we were there. The front desk staff was also very friendly.

However, several things you should be aware of:
(1) The hotel is directly under the flight path for SFO. Every night beginning around 9 pm until about 12 am, it literally felt like a jet plane was going to crash into the unit. The windows are dual paned but even so the whole unit shakes and noise is very loud. It is not like this most of the day, but when the planes do fly over, it is really loud.
(2) The breakfast buffet dining room is way too small for the number of people trying to use it. When we were there, numerous people had to stand and wait for others to finish. Also, the selection of food is OK, but not very varied.
(3) The kitchen is clean and adequate. However it is not really furnished that well. Not many cooking pans, utensils or other kitchen items there.

We have stayed at this hotel several times now.

Price: I don't think you can beat the value. The suites are huge, clean and well equipped - especially if you plan to stay for more than 5 days. Internet (wired) is free, breakfast is free (and reasonable), laundry facilities are free, and you do not pay to park your car there (although parking can sometimes be tight).

Location: Ideal for the airport (SFO) and it is close to the BART, a mall (Tanforan), cinema and supermarket (Albertsons). If you are planning on day trips North or South it is very handy for the freeways. If you plan on heading downtown you can walk to the Bart station and use that rather than driving (20 mins) and trying to park downtown, which is a nightmare.

I would definitely stay again. There is no better value for money if you do not mind not being downtown.

We chose this Staybridge Suites hotel because we know the brand, found the location great as it was an easy drive from SFO, and one could easily walk to the BART station to get into San Francisco. We had reserved a one bedroom suite for our 4 day stay, and were "upgraded" to a two bedroom suite on arrival. The suite was huge with two full bedrooms and bathrooms and a hide-a-bed in the living area. It was much more space than my wife and I needed. The hotel had previously been a Summerhiils Suites hotel, and it was showing its age, but it was clean and the staff were very helpful. The windows did not open, probably for sound proofing reasons as the hotel is very close to the airport, but the A/C was OK. The in-room internet access was wired, and did not work for the first two days until they changed their hardware, but the wireless worked in the main reception and dining area.
The breakfasts were very good as were the evening manager's receptions.
Our only issue with the hotel was that we did not receive our Priority Club points for the stay as it was deemed ineligible because the price we paid for the upgraded room was less than the 30% discount threshold to receive points. If they had mentioned that on check-in we probably would not have opted for the upgrade.

Nice value. Location is close to highway system, and hotel is clean. Those criticizing the parking and airplane noise are exaggerating. There was plenty of parking. You could occasionally hear a plane, but at least on the first floor, it was no big deal and we lost no sleep over it. For the money, this was a good stay for our family. The biggest criticism we have is actually the beds, too soft.

However, a good value.

My family and I stayed at this hotel because my wife wanted access to nearby shopping before we left SF. While we found the facility itself to be above average, it was the attitude of the management and staff that really impressed us. They went out of their way to be helpful to us and made our short stay there to be a wondeful one. We would return there in a minute!

Nov. 11, 2005 A complete package. When we arrived at SFO, we called Staybridge and they came and picked us up. Despite being early for check in, we were able to check in around 1:00 with very friendly staff. After we went to Pier 59 and were helped by a very friendly woman at the BART station just 3 blocks away, we came back to their "happy hour" type thing. They had beer, wine and cola on tap and Minestrone Soup and Bruchetta bread. We thought that was amazing! The pool was a normal hotel pool. The room we had was a two bedroom suite on the ground floor that fit 6 adults. The grounds were well kept with beautiful plants. In the morning there was a continental breakfast with awesome muffins and baked goods, juice, good strong coffee, and hot eggs, bacon, etc. Very good deal for our money with 6 family members.
