“Best Hotel for Value in San Francisco/San Bruno Area!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

We stayed here from 8/28 to 8/30 and then again on 9/4. The rooms are a 5 star at a 3 star price. The beds are the most comfortable I have slept on. The staff were excellent and the lobby and rooms are beautiful. We dreaded leaving to go to Santa Cruz as there are no accommodations this nice and for the price. Parking is located under the hotel and is secured by room key. Note: ALL parking in California is small- do not try to park a FORD F350, Extended 4x4's etc. We rented a Ford Escape which was the perfect size anywhere we went in California.

My wife and I recently spent six nights at the Villa Montes. We were in the San Francisco area for a vacation and to attend a family wedding. We found the hotel to be a great value, particularly for the price we paid. We would stay there again if looking for a well-priced, well-maintained, comfortable hotel in the Bay Area.

The property is located just south of I-380, giving easy access to both I-280 and highway 101 to get to San Francisco. It’s also very near the San Francisco airport. The building is on a four-lane, divided street. Getting to the hotel from I-380 requires going south past the hotel, then making a u-turn at the next stoplight.

The property has apparently been recently remodeled, and is in great shape. There are a couple of ground-level, off-street parking spaces, right off the lobby, when you can park for checking in. The remaining parking spots are in an underground garage below the hotel. The spaces are tight, but we managed to squeeze our midsize SUV into them without much difficulty. Often, when we got back in the evenings, we took the last or next-to-last available parking spot in the garage.
All the common areas and rooms appear to be well-maintained. There is a comfortable lounge area right off the main lobby.

Check-in was easy, and the young clerk was friendly. We arrived late in the afternoon, and there was a plate of fresh, warm cookies on the counter – a regular afternoon feature.

We had a third-floor room on the back of the hotel (opposite the street). The hotel is in close enough proximity to the airport that the sound of planes was a bit loud in our room. We did not, however, notice any street noise.
The room was spacious enough, even with our king-size bed. The choice of furniture and its layout, however, seemed a little odd. There was not a dresser in the room. Instead, an armoire housed the refrigerator, microwave, a safe, and a single drawer. The flat-panel TV sat on top of the armoire. Next to the armoire was a small, padded bench. We would have preferred to have had a dresser, with the fridge and microwave perhaps in place of the bench. Also, instead of an armchair, there were two straight-backed chairs and a small circular table (furnished with a tray and coffee cups).
The bed was quite comfortable. The pillows, while small, were also comfortable. As noted in other reviews, the bed did not include a top sheet. I asked for a sheet from the front desk, and they had one sent up without issue. The clerk told me that they wash the duvet covers regularly, so they do not make the beds with the top sheet.

The breakfast room was large, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast food selection was minimal, but adequate. Fruit, cereals, bagels, and do-it-yourself waffles were the menu items.

The staff was pleasant and helpful. One issue with the service came on a day late in our stay. Most days, we were gone all day and into the evening. We generally arrived back at the hotel to find our room clean and the bed made. On this day, however, we got back to the hotel at around 5 PM to get ready to go to back out that evening. We arrived to find that the room had not been cleaned and made up for the day. The housekeeping staff showed up while we were getting ready, so we had them just leave fresh linens and not do a full cleaning. The explanation was that they had been busy all day. This was inconvenient for us, as I expected the room to have been made up earlier in the day.

Overall, we had a good experience with the Villa Montes. The lack of a dresser, and the layout of the room were slight drawbacks. One less-than-satisfying experience with the housekeeping service also dampened the experience. The clean, comfortable property, convenient location and parking, friendly staff, and virtually unbeatable price, however, made up for these negatives, and lead me to recommend this hotel as a good place to stay in the Bay Area.

Room Tip: A room on the second floor, on the side opposite the street would likely minimize noise from both th...

Very comfortable, friendly staff and warm cookies! An absolute treat, makes you want to just stay in your room and relax. Every detail was thought out and conceived for comfort. Free wireless, free airport shuttle, continental breakfast. There was a computer available on our floor just to print out boarding passes.....also free. Would stay there again and again.

Room Tip: A room at the back would be better because of less traffic noise.

we chose this hotel because it kept coming up on trip advisor with really good reviews. even though we had never heard of it, we took our chances! trip advisor: YOU DID GOOD!

what a charming little hotel. it is about 10 minutes south of san francisco. on EL camino real, you can pretty much find every other major hotel chain as well. there are plenty of usefull thing nearby: wallgreens, supermarket, gas stations, trader joes, shpping centers, and lots of cute little restaurants! the hotel itself was very cute, nicely decorated, the rooms were very comfy. not a lot of closet space! the bathroom was nice, comfortable, clean! the staff was friendly. there is parking for hotel guests at no charge, and wi-fi in the rooms. breakfast was inlcuded but it really is very normal-ish..... i would definately go back there !!!!!!

Room Tip: both rooms we had were great on the top floor

Stayed at the Villa Montes on our way to San Fran. What a great hotel! Obviously newly constructed - all parking is underground and gated. Needed room keycards to get anywhere in the hotel but I like that for added security. Breakfast, internet and parking is included. Night clerk was great - helped us multiple times even before we checked into the hotel. The room was beautiful - the details in the room were great. The hotel isn't in a beautiful area but it's in driving distance to San Fran (30-40 mins) and with all that's included we'd do it again.

Enjoyed the whole package that came with the room - complimentary glass of wine and wifi in the lounge, the spa, the free breakfast, comfortable bed, linens and spa robes. The gentleman at the from desk was very accommodating and pleasant. Will definitely come back to this treasure.

Room Tip: Ask for a third or fourth floor room east of El Camino if you are sensitive to the noise of passing...

My husband stays here whenever he's on a business trip in the San Francisco area, but this was my time. What a lovely hotel, and wonderful place to stay. Our room was magnificent! It is very close to the airport, but I can only remember hearing a plane one time. The breakfast wasn't great, but everything else was perfect! I highly recommend this hotel! Don't let the distance from the airport scare you off, you'll never know it's there!
