Le Rendezvous, an authentic French restaurant, is a charming, intimate, special date place. It has been around for a very long time. The food has always been quite good, but we heard that it had been sold and the new chef/owner had just taken over. So, we decided to see whether this was a good thing or bad. We had dinner there Thursday night and what a wonderful surprise! While the menu is unchanged, there are now nightly specials that are reasonably priced and really good quality, and even include a small dessert. The hostess explained that the specials will vary and will keep our choices refreshingly new. That night the evening specials were New York Steak in peppercorn sauce or Chicken Cordon Bleu. We both ordered the steak and it was generous, tender and cooked to perfection. Everything that came with the meal was better than I remember. The potatoes were much tastier and the veggies were perfectly al dente. The nice thing was hearing the guests at the tables around us talking about how they were really enjoying their food too, as they were obviously old-timers who were just as tentative about what to expect. Service was elegant but slow-paced. Don't expect a quick meal, this is intended to be fine-dining-savoring. Hats off to the new chef. We will be back! And...there is talk of having lunch and brunch coming soon.
