“Great Italian, with friendly locals vibe”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

We ate here based on recommendations from the b and b. it is a marvelous restaurant relying only on a locals crowd. You don't maintain, much less make a good living with locals unless you are really good. This place is really good. We met the owner and many of the staff. We heard about their kids, met their neighbors and had a great nite. Very unusual experience for me. Even when I go to local restaurants at home, I don't see this degree of friendliness, much less in combo w amazing food! Loved it!

“great italian food and service”
Reviewed February 26, 2012

I ate here with a group of four. We ordered salads (large and excellent) and we each ordered pasta dishes. The sauces were delicious and rich without being overwhelming. The service was great also.

“Primo Italian in an Unexpected Suburban Location”
Reviewed January 27, 2012

The food at cucina would rival the best Italian restaurants in San Francisco, in a storefront setting in suburban setting. This is not surprising, though, to anyone who knows the owner, and knows he created Jackson-Fillmore in the City--probably the best informal Italian in SF in the early to mid 90s. For appetizers, my wife and my friends all recommend the grilled stuffed mushrooms if they are on special, which they usually are. The baked artichoke is also quite good. The restaurant is known for its "carpaccio di zucchini" salad, but shredded raw zucchini is a spectator sport for me. We have never had a bad entree there. Among the pastas, we can particularly recommend the Bombolatti, as well as the Linguine Fra Diavolo and the Tortellin al Forno. Among the main courses, the Veal Chop is always a stand-out, and has been since the Jackson FIllmore days. The Sicilian chicken is fully flavored and tasty, while the elephant ear chicken is one of my favoriites (think chicken breast pounded to a 1/4 in thickness, then breaded and lightly fried like a schnitzel).

The restaurant is also known in the area for its wine list, which has Italians that are difficult to find.

Very casual and informal--perfect place to unwind on a Friday night. Or any night.

“Terrific Italian food - no pretense. Good food, served well, worth a visit”
Reviewed April 9, 2011

A simple Italian restaurant in the spirit of a small hole- what you'd find in Italy or an Italian neighborhood of Boston or New York without the tourists. A sapring garden salad touched off with mint was fresh, delicious and a great start - meals included chicken Siciliana, a linguine vongole, pasta with a ragu and a baked shrimp dish... each was finished down to the sauce. A statement in itself for 4 people each ordering a different meal. Reasonable wine list with Italian and US vintages without an unseemly markup. Well worth a visit; we'll return.
