Salinas is a half way point for us when traveling to Northern Cal. The town is growing, with a lot of newer places to stay and eat. There is a new BJ's and Chipotle by the mall. There is a Black Bear Diner right in the motel parking lot. The Laurel Inn has been a stopping place for me for many years. We found the staff is very friendly. We stayed in room 170, which is in the back area of the motel. It's very quiet back there and the lot is well lit. There is a breeze way to the front where the restaurant and breakfast area are. The decor is a bit tired, but the room was clean. They really do need new (or better) mattresses. Our bed was extremely hard! Their rates are very reasonable. If you're looking for a place to rest while on the road, this is a good, clean, inexpensive choice.
