Good place, they have an elevator and stairs. Acceptable breakfast. Refrigerator is just a refrigerator not a freezer too. No flat screen TV in my room. Fairly quiet place. Walkable to the movie theater.

The Howard Johnson Inn in Salinas, CA has seen better days. It's a basic Motel kind of feel... all the rooms open directly onto the the parking lot or busy street. The rooms are sparse and the furniture needed to be replaced many years ago. The rooms are musty and dank. The town of Salinas isn't doing too well... many restaurants have closed down and there are areas that are not safe. If you have to stay in Salinas, try the Howard Johnson on Kern Street or better yet, drive 30 minutes to the Monterey area where there are much nicer hotels, restaurants and nightlife.

Hello guest, thank you for staying at our hotel and you are right that the hotel we have is based on designed since 1994 and was originally Holiday Inn. So décor are based on that. Now that we have anew ownership we are in the process of redoing the whole room look based on the true colors of Howard Johnson Inn. This whole process will take a year with the time and cost, so hopefully if you decide to come back again by late next year you would find the upgraded look. Salinas is an old and new city with the farming industry. It is improving in its look and feel and we definitely cannot compete with Monterey with its beautiful beaches and environment. But am glad that you were able to stay at our hotel, because our prices are comparatively low to Monterey hotels.

We arrived late and the property manager was very nice and helpful. The rooms were big and very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable, I slept like a rock. The contental breakfast was very good, there was a large selection of items to choose from.

We got here at 10pm. Check in was quick and I have to say the rooms were so quiet all night long. So easy to sleep.
