Owner description: The Monterey Peninsula's love affair with world-class racing traces its beginnings to the inaugural running of the Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950. Those sports car events quickly outgrew the public roads of the Del Monte Forest and a beautiful new road facility was born on November 9, 1957.Since then, Monterey has been visited by some of the most prestigious racers in history; Roger Penske, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Kenny Roberts, Bobby Rahal, Wayne Rainey and Valentino Rossi to name a few. The late 60's and 1970's may be remembered as the "Can-Am Years," but it was also the debut of Trans Am, IMSA and AMA motorcycles. CART Indy Car racing and Grand Prix Motorcycling put their stamp on the track in the 80's and 90's. More recently, the huge evolution MotoGP has created a phenomenal global following for the track.Today, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca hosts five world-class race weekends each season, with elite road racing series from around the world visiting the Monterey Peninsula every year.

The races always are lots of fun to watch. I did not camp but have heard that the sites are nice and it is a quiet setting with lots of oak trees.

When they run a professional race, it gets expensive (approximately $40 to park, ~$80 entry fee) and very crowded. We have friends who do SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) amateur racing. It's very expensive for them - to own or rent the race cars with the safety equipment, the fire retardant suits, entry fees. However, for us pit crew members, we don't have to buy a ticket, and without the crowds, we can view the races from any stands or hilltops. Whether it's a professional or amateur race, it's a great course with some outstanding viewing locations.

We like going to the special events like historic cars & Cherries Jubilee. Well designed, and with some changes to the layout in the works, we find that food, restrooms, and drinks are accessible, also the souvenier shops - a little bit small. Usually find the food quality to be okay with prices quite high for a captive group so look around. English Ales Brewery from Marina has been at a couple events and that was a nice treat. Looking forward to some future improvements around the track itself, and will continue to smack there, but eat main meal away except for rare occasions.

So many options for viewing you're favorite race cars along this well thought out track it's a no brainer. With a little bit of advance planning, grab a campsite and stay the weekend. Food concessions are plentiful, bathrooms convenient, a pit pass gains insight into the race teams and up close and personal with the mechanics and drivers. My family loves this place even during the off race season as a place to escape the city and enjoy the distant views, weekend race clubs, abundant wildlife and quiet evenings by the fire.

I was never at any kind of car or bike racing before and we went to the Motor GP for the first time last year...wow. I couldnt believe the noise, the fun and how friendly everyone was. I wasnt expecting this to be as family family orientated as it was but it was fantastic. From the people working there, competing there and just hanging out..everyone was great! It was wonderful and I cant wait to go again.
