I was looking for a good meal, and the motel guy said this place had good seafood. The fact that they brew their own beer was icing on the cake. So I ordered the sea bass, a new item on their menu, and a Scottish Red Ale. I chose the beer after being offered a sample of a couple of the beers, a nice touch. The only minor disappointment was that the brewery was in the process of making its stout and porter, and they weren't available. The Scottish Red Ale was crisp and tasty - but the big surprise was the bass. It came on a bed of risotto, spinach, artichoke and mushrooms, and was incredible. Seared a tad on the outside, tender and moist inside, and absolutely delicious. The risotto was a perfect complement, a wonderful medley of flavors. The portion was ample enough to leave me feeling stuffed. The price was about $20, and a bargain. The restaurant is just down the block from the Steinbeck Museum, another Salinas must-see.
