“Incredible Experience”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

What an incredible experience we had at Meadowood. We didn't want to leave we loved it so much!

First of all, our cottage-like room was awesome! Room 35 was like our own luxury tree house perched on the hillside -- it couldn't have been more perfect. The bathroom was very large and beautifully appointed. Overall extremely comfortable with sitting area, wood burning FP and private deck offering lovely views.

The service level at the resort was excellent and the amenities perfectly suited our needs. The pool and spa area were our favorites. I would like to mention that Will Agee, one of the concierges, could not have been more helpful and was just delightful to be around. The wine tastings each evening in front of the roaring fireplace were very enjoyable and a great way to meet people. Next time we visit we would like to play some croquet -- the course is state of the art and like no other that I've seen in the US. I have experienced many luxury hotels and I have to say that Meadowood is in a class of it's own when it comes to resort style hotels.

Room Tip: From what I observed all of the rooms were very private nestled in small groups around the resort...

I love hearing positive feedback on our newly renovated guest rooms. One of our great challenges at Meadowood is ensuring the property feels fresh and current while preserving the relaxed, country feel our guests are seeking when visiting the Napa Valley. It is our hope that our guest rooms convey a casual elegance in which guests will feel at home while enjoying the real focal point of the property: our beautiful, private setting and idyllic climate. Even more than reading good things about the guest rooms, however, I love to read positive reviews of our service. In the end, service is the heart and soul of a memorable experience. I will pass along your kind compliment to Will. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We look forward to offering you a big, warm welcome when you are able to return to us!

My husband and I stayed at Meadowood for our 2nd wedding anniversary in April 2013 for 2 nights and absolutely loved it! We have previously stayed at Auberge du Soleil and though we enjoyed that, wanted to try something new. Well, Meadowood is our new favorite spot! The drive up to the property takes you by a beautiful vineyard and through a wooded area that feels like a glam summer camp for grown ups.

We stayed in a beautiful Lawnview room overlooking the croquet lawn. The room was very well appointed and you could tell it had been recently updated. Loved the large bathroom and fireplace but our favorite part of the room was the deck! Perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine and soak up the sunshine and gorgeous surroundings. There was even a croquet tournament one of the afternoons that was fun to watch. My husband and I love to hike and they have great trails around the property - be sure to ask about them first because some are definitely more advanced! A couple behind us attempted to hike in flip flops and had to turn back.

Our first night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Restaurant which was such a treat! That was our special anniversary dinner and wow, it was amazing! Every dish that came out of the kitchen was intriguing and delicious! The service was impeccable and the sommelier was extremely helpful. They gave us special menus to commemorate our anniversary, which was a nice touch. The entire experience definitely lived up to what one would expect from a 3 Michelin star restaurant and was worth every penny!

We loved exploring the charming town of St. Helena. The Model Bakery was great for a casual breakfast and there are tons of cute shops to explore. We were walking through some of the surrounding neighborhood and found the incredible Spottswoode Estate & Winery. We weren't able to do a tour but gave ourself a mini tour around the property and enjoyed some of their fabulous Sauvignon Blanc. This place felt like such a secret, special find and we will definitely plan in advance for a proper tour next time we are in town. After our indulgent dinner the first night, we were in the mood for something more casual and the concierge at Meadowood was great in recommending some local places to try.

There are many great places to stay throughout Napa Valley, but my husband and I were most impressed with our stay at Meadowood. We've been telling everyone visiting the area to check it out and will definitely be back! Next time we want to try the golf course with the hickory clubs!

Room Tip: Lawnside rooms have a great view of the croquet lawn and the surrounding trees. Feels secluded and...

First, thank you for referring friends visiting the area to us! Soon you'll find yourself with a circle of friends who will all share Meadowood memories! It sounds like you managed to experience a great deal during your stay. If you're golf enthusiasts definitely plan on Hickory Golf on your next visit. It's a wonderful way to experience the game the way old time favorites such as Bobby Jones would have. It really is all about the art of the swing! And be sure to hold Golf Pro Doug Pike to his tradition of joining Hickory Golf players for an old-fashioned cocktail on the deck after the game. One of our sommeliers would be very happy to arrange a visit for you to Spottswoode on your next visit as well. We agree it is such a beautiful place and the wines are excellent. We're now offering complimentary rides into downtown St. Helena so you can continue to explore the town, walk to Spottswoode and then wander back to Main Street for lunch. I'm pleased you enjoyed your special evening in The Restaurant at Meadowood and the other aspects of the property you mention. And thank you for noting the need for proper walking/hiking shoes. Our trails are definitely not suited to flip flops! We hope to see you again very soon. Alex Kim, General Manager

Great resort to visit and utilize as a base for wine tours. Meadwood is the one of the leading resort in Napa Valley which has in room spa treatments!

Chef Christopher Kostow's Michelin 3 star restaurant offers excellent selection of food, delicious dishes each time! However, please be aware that the portions are tiny and the price is BIG, but the presentation and quality are stellar.

Thank you for writing! We are definitely centrally located within the Napa Valley and our resident sommeliers are always happy to assist guests with recommendations of wineries to visit. In fact, they're also available to develop highly customized itineraries for individual guests based on personal preferences. They also conduct interesting and engaging wine exploration programs here on the property, such as the sensory evaluation of wine. So, if there's a day you don't wish to leave the comfort of our beautiful estate, you may still benefit from new wine experiences! It's nice to hear you enjoyed your dinner in The Restaurant at Meadowood. It's true that the portions for each course are small, but as you mentioned, they are wonderful and there are on average nine or ten courses served for the Chef's Menu. We look forward to seeing you again and are very appreciative of the time you took to share your review. Alex Kim, General Manager

We stayed at Meadowood in Nov 2013 for our 30th Anniversary. It was just luxurious and excellent. Service provided was excellent. Dinner at The Restaurant at chefs table was once in life time experience. In room massage is something you would not want to miss. Grill for breakfast and in room breakfast was again rare experience.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us for such a special occasion! We receive such wonderful feedback from our guests who are culinary enthusiasts about the Chef's Counter experience in The Restaurant. To me, it's a bit like watching a ballet with a view of both the front and back of the house. The choreography that takes place from kitchen to dining room is fascinating and having the chefs spend all evening chatting with you about ingredients, techniques, etc...is entirely entertaining. Please do return to us! We will look forward to presenting you with new opportunities to foster fond memories. Alex Kim, General Manager

My wife and I have gone to Meadowood a couple times, and each experience has been wonderful. The resort is nestled away and the views are gorgeous. The Michelin 3 star Meadowood restaurant is outstanding, and the other restaurant is quite special too. The rooms we had were comfortable and quaint with enough luxury to make it a very special experience. And it was quiet with reasonable privacy, which added to the comfort and atmosphere of romance for a couple. As we love tennis, the resort has a wonderful lead tennis pro in Doug King, and the supporting pros are great too. The courts are fun to play on, and it can be a great tennis get-away. The staff is very helpful and eager to please. And the spa is fantastic, with many choices of massage and spa treatments. In summary, a wonderful get-away or vacation.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, the suites are outstanding.

Three cheers for Doug King! We're so pleased to welcome tennis enthusiasts to Meadowood. Our seven hard court surfaces are settled into a beautiful, natural setting and our pro shop offers any items guests may have forgotten at home for purchase or rent. Doug King is an exceptional teacher with a technique he pioneered to enhance the tennis skills of players of all levels. He's one of the few pros I've met over the years who can be supremely patient with new players, including children, while challenging players at a high level to improve by making small adjustments to aspects of their game, from posture to swing. Lessons are available for singles, doubles or small groups all days of the week through all months of the year, weather permitting. Thank you for your kind comments about the other aspects of your stay as well. We are most appreciative! Alex Kim, General Manager

We have been there twice over the span of three years. This is a great place to base a winery tour. With the help of the concierge we were able to discover small, superb wineries. The hotel has excellent facilities for tennis. The par 3 course is cheap and challenging. The pool is nice. The Michelin rated restaurant was more theater than dining. We found it overated, overpriced, and overblown. The cabins are wonderful - attractive, clean and comfortable.

I appreciate that you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay at Meadowood. We are pleased to be the only property in the Napa Valley offering golf, tennis, croquet, hiking and swimming. When you return to us I highly recommend adding some time on the croquet lawns into your itinerary! Our resident concierges and guest services representatives are exceptionally well versed in our local winery experiences and have wonderful relationships with our local vintners and growers. The possibilities for memorable winery visits are endless. It's unfortunate that The Restaurant at Meadowood did not meet your expectations. It has become highly regarded by critics internationally as well as a great many of our guests. That said, no culinary experience is ideally suited to everyone and we appreciate your point of view. We are always happy to make recommendations for dining experiences at the many other acclaimed restaurants located within the Napa Valley. In fact, on your next visit, please feel free to reach out to me personally and I will be happy to share recommendations of some of my favorite local dining spots with you. Alex Kim, General Manager
