Sometimes the corporateness of hospitality can be waring. You know the kind of thing: "Contact our VP of Customer relations "or "join our nation wide rewards programme". This property just has an Innkeeper and a very good one he is too.
He and his excellent team fully understand exactly what his customers are looking for.No you dont want to drive to dinner so a free transport service is offered. How can you select the right vineyards to visit?.The inn cursions programmme will do it for you.If you just want to get away for a few days then the well appointed rooms and top class cottages will suit and there is a great pool nestling in the vines.
Some of the furnishings are a little quirky (I wouldnt want a stain glass window or distressed iron bedstead at home )but it ads to the distinctiveness and character of the Inn.
Highlight for me however were the gardens. In the Napa valley it appears that every spare piece of ground is planted to vines .Here the roses and a wide array of shrubs, flowers provide a spectacle of colour and aromas and attract the most delightful humming birds.
I have a worry.I read that the next generation (the Innkeepers son) is away studying Hospitality Management at College, no doubt studying how to be a VP of Customer Satisfaction or similar. All I would say is that there is some great education to be had very, very close to home.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Wine Country with a stay in the Wine Country Inn. It could not have been more relaxing or delicious! Delicious in so many ways...the friendly staff, the wonderful food, the lovely balcony room overlooking the vineyards, the beautiful gardens and the great location...Up Valley in St. Helena.

We are returning guests at the WCI and no matter when we visit, the Inn never disappoints. Jim, Deniese, Chef Guy, Tracy and the Gang always create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone...like old friends you can't wait to see. We highly recommend this lovely location and look forward to our next visit.

After reading all the rave reviews on this web site reguarding this inn, we booked a room there even though it cost much more than our second and third choices. I booked the room by talking to staff at the property back in March, asking for a good room. Upon arrival we found out room 11, which we had been assigned 4 months earlier, appeared to be the only room at the Inn that had never been updated since the property opened in the late 70s yet it still cost the same as the gleaming, new rooms, over $350 a night.

The entire room was tired. A bathroom that dated would not be found in a Motel 6. A mod fireplace from the 70's stuck out 4" in the room surrounded by fake brick. One decent sitting chair along with 2 ratten chairs that no one could actually sit on. A spectacular view with a small deck but with chairs again so uncomfortable, they were good for about 5 minutes of sitting. Carpet, in the room and on the deck, looked dirty. Two walls have wood paneling that is suppose to add the charm of old barn wood but it just looks like drab, unfinished old wood.

When we asked if we could get another room, we were offered one that was much more attractive with a new bathroom but it did not have a deck (it had an odd enclosed porch with high walls that blocked the view and overlooked the outside dining area) or any chairs other than those ridiculous ratten ones, so we decided to stay put. When we checked out, we reinterated we were very disappointed with the room and were given a begrudged 10% off our bill.

Everything else about the Inn was outstanding. The grounds are lovely. The staff is helpful and friendly. Very nice pool and hot tub in a beautiful setting. Fantastic breakfast every morning.

All that was wonderful was tainted however, by our room. We are at a loss to know why we were given such a lousy room in the first place. We were told all the rooms at the Inn are unique and they were sorry we didn't like ours, But, after seeing into other rooms, we quickly figured out rooms with new windows had been updated. It looked like every room except #11, had new windows. Since we booked it back in March, it is hard to believe all the nicer rooms were already booked. We never got an answer to our question.

Thank you for your comments about our Inn. I am sorry you did not like your room. I am thrilled, however, that you noticed the new windows in the other rooms you peeked into. We are three years into a four year project of replacing all the windows in the Inn. It is a very expensive proposition ($100,000 per year for four years), but it is good to see people notice. The windows in all the remaining rooms will be changed out this next winter (2009). Our carbon footprint has already been reduced quite a bit with these new windows and they also cut down on farming noise from the neighboring vineyards as well as fabric fading.
Room 11 is our most controversial room. It even says so on our website. It is a great, cozy (OK, maybe a little retro) and comfortable room. However, Room 11 is on our hit list for upgrades next year. Though we are going to leave the barn wood (it is real 120 year-old wood) we do have plans for new seating, curtains, windows, bedding and such. The carpet may not be to your liking but it is only two years old and shampooed regularly. As it says on the website, if you are looking for something brighter and more "updated" choose room #9 right across the hall. We have many guests that love this room and request it every time they stay.

I am just finishing up my stay at the Wine Country Inn. If I knew then what I know now - I'd stay here for my entire vacation!

First - the staff is warm and friendly. We arrived later than we expected due to airline trouble. We were tired and hungry. The woman who greeted us called a few nearby restaurants and asked if they could still serve us (it was almost 9:00 on a Sunday) and found us one right away.

We didn't get a good look at the place until the next morning - and it's just lovely. The Inn is surrounded by beautiful views of the Napa hillsides. The landscaping is amazing - with flowers and vines and the scent of rosemary and honeysuckle breezing through the air.

Our room is comfortable and large. Every detail, from cozy bath robes to q-tips are available. Some have criticized the decor, but it's an INN - it's supposed to be a bit rustic and old-fashioned looking! We are in room #4 - which has a shady patio right out of our back door.

Breakfast is plentiful and tasty - and runs long enough so if you want to sleep late you won't miss it! In the evening there is a wine-tasting provided by one of the local wineries as well as appetizers - you can even ask for the recipes!

We took the wine tasting tour which lasts for the whole day. Our guide was knowledgeable and congenial and took us to off-the-beaten-path wineries that offered inexpensive to free tastings (unusual in wine country these days, so I'm told). It was worth the price. I found out that you can arrange for the Inn to have any bottles of wine you purchase shipped home for you (through a service). That's another plus I didn't expect!

Only one complaint, and it's really not that important - my cell phone had terrible reception unless I went outside. Big deal, I went outside - it was gorgeous.

The only other snag is that there are no TV's in the rooms. That's only a problem if you absolutely HAVE to watch something. But - there is a business center with a computer and a large TV in a common room that you can watch if you can't record your show at home. Or, you can bring your lap-top along and download the episode the next day.

All in all - I will probably stay here again and again - there's no need to look any further. I would hightly recommend Wine Country Inn for honeymooners, adults or those travelling with their adult children OVER 21. (Napa in general isn't accommodating to young kidsor tweens, IMO. They can't go to tastings and there aren't any large stuffed animals walking around to entertain them - no kids menus or McDonalds that I've seen thus far either).

I'd be hard pressed to find anything I didn't like about staying here - and hope to return here in the future.

We were looking for the perfect romantic weekend getaway to Napa and had high expectations of the Wine Country Inn. We had seen all the positive reviews and we were not disappointed after we arrived. The Inn and gardens were beautiful! The staff were great and made us feel right at home. They were always quick to help and satisfy any needs we had during our three night stay. The food and the afternoon wine tasting were wonderful! Our room, suite 19, was very spacious and comfortable. It was the most relaxing location for an evening couple's massage that we had scheduled through the services provided by the Inn. (Highly recommended the day you arrive!) The room had a large 2 person jetted tub, a balcony that overlooked the vineyard & gardens, and the furishings were unique and well fitted for the room. Our room was also very quiet and we never missed the TV!

The Wine "Inn-cursion" provided by the Inn was a great idea and one of the highlights of our trip. Tracey was a wonderful host for our tour and we got to taste some really great wines without any of the work required to drive and arrange a tour route.

The Inn has a gorgeous pool and hot tub that was very relaxing after a day of visiting wineries. The shuttle service provided by the Inn to area restaurants also took the worry out of enjoying a bottle of wine at dinner.

My wife and I both hated to leave and really enjoyed our stay and the people we met at the Inn. It was the perfect choice for a 20th wedding anniversary honeymoon!

Recently stayed at the Wine Country Inn and loved it. It is quaint, and very wam and welcoming. The location is perfect for exploring the Napa Valley wineries, and close to all the restaurants that we wanted to sample. The rooms are quite large, and we were fortunate to have a balcony. We had attempted one of the cabins, but unavailable, so settled on a room within the inn. Nice and quiet with a fantastic view of vineyards, amazing breakfasts and snacks/coffee/ and even wine tastings later in the day. Staff were always doing there best to help out, and the free shuttle to local restaurants was an added plus. My only criticism was the upholstery in the main area could benefit from an update, as would the bedspread/pillow cases in the room. Overall, a fantastic experience, and i would not hesitate to stay again.

My wife and I went to San Francisco with family and decided , while we were out there, we'd take the drive to wine country after they came back home. We found the Wine Country Inn on line and booked it...hoping it would be as nice as it looked on the website. I have to say the website does NOT do it justice. A website cannot convey a staff's kindness, courtesy and talent. They made us feel like they were there to do nothing else but be sure we had the times of our lives! The food was amazing, the hospitality was second to none and the ammenitites (including the InnCursion and restaurant Shuttle) were top notch. I won't even go into the views from the patio - WOW! I can't say enough about the Inn...except GO! Although the bill may seem pricey, it is well worth every penny. We will go back to Napa Valley and we WILL be staying at the Wine Country Inn again.
