Raymond has some amazing wines. My favorite on this trip was the Oakville 2008 Cab. Just wonderful, it may have been my favorite of all 16 wineries I visited this trip. There are a lot of unique tasting experiences at Raymond. The Crystal Room is a unique in that it is a lot of stainless steel, Crystal and the lighting is dim giving the room a certain ambience. This is where the reserve wines are served. They also have one of my favorite seminars that I have ever taken in the valley. The Wine Maker for a day experience gives you a chance to blend your own wine. You get to take home a bottle of your own blend and given the chance to buy a case of more of your own blend. I even added my own label which made it even more special for me. The regular tasting room is open daily without appointment. Another reason to love Raymond is that they have vineyards in multiple AVA's throughout Napa so you can experience the differences between the different parts of Napa all with one stop. If you are driving by it is well worth your time to stop here.

We know for years Raymond wines and we were very thrilled to learn/tastet the wines that they produce and that we don't have back home. We were 2 couples, friends, wine lovers and I can say 'connaisseurs'' . They offer different ''experiences' and we booked the Red room --The descriptions on their site mentioned Room decorated in red velvet with Baccarat table, chandelier, etc.. with bottle service wine tasting - select Raymond red wine, sparkling red wine and red room red wine ---minimum $50 purchase --This will be perfect for red wine amateur. When you want to register , you are automatically transferred to the Cellar pass website and then the price is $60.00 p person and they advise you that they won't charge your credit card . We were 12 persons in that red room . The waitress/bartender explained us that we could have our tasting by once, half glass, bottle etc and showed us a distributor with 8 bottles , each of them with a different price ( everything time you asked for a glass of wine, she passed her card in the machine of the distributor ) . Then she talked about champagne, that the owner Mr Boisset produces a champagne from Burgungy (????excuse me but to name champagne a bottle it has to be made in champagne )called 65 for the sum of $65. Nobody really understand how this tasting function so far. Then, we opted for a glass of champagne and the lady opened a bottle and poured us a glass then the other 4 persons also want the ''champagne made in burgundy' - she opened another bottle -?? why ?? If she opened a bottle,we have to pay for it and the cost is $65.00 Then we realized what was going on: The red room used to be a room dedicated only for the wine club members and they decided to offer it to the ''grand public'' - this is not a tasting tour as we expected- this is a room where each person in the room has to spend at least $50.00 for the time being there . So by taking this bottle of champagne made in burgundy at $65.00, we had another $135 to spend for the 4 persons of our group .. We could spend it -either by taking from their distributor - 2 oz- half a glass, a glass or a bottle. We were expecting that for $50 , we will taste different red wines in a private area with a wine educator who will tell us what we are drinking like most of the wineries do . We were also expecting to taste Red sparkling wine as described in their website -- Instead, we were offered/sell a bottle of champagne which is a cremant of burgundy for the horrible price of $65-( even after pointing out to the lady to do not call it champagne - she was not convinced at all) - We tasted all of them and appreciated their ''regular'' wines but not their top/select wine. If you want to spend $200 to drink wines , don't go in the red room , go in any wine bar or tastings room in Rutherford, Napa etc... at least, you could choose with over 100 varieties ... After spending our $200, we went out to visit the other ''experience'' room - Barrel room and crystal room is very impressive.
All of this that we were very disappointed of our visit - we love Raymond wine. Unfortunately, the ''experience'' on their website are not well described . They should call it wine bar .

Disappointing and over rated. Good but not great wine. Poor tasting room experience. High end tasting room staffed with poor, arrogant and inexperienced people trying too hard. Will not go back!

Jean Charles Boisset outdid himself with this winery. If you have a dog, if you have to visit. He created beautiful, outdoor doggie kennels for their safety and comfort. The theater of nature is amazing, and then there's the delish wine!

This place is great fun and highly imaginative in its flamboyance and cheerful vulgarity. It probably might offend hardcore wine tasting purists but we enjoyed the idea of 'the experience'. We did a tasting and I bought a delightful dessert wine but neither of us were that blown away by the other wines we tasted. However this is a great experience especially if you haven't got that much spare time available in Napa. We also really respect the self sufficiency of the place which is very inspiring.
