Very authentic Chinese food. Terrific food, in a very casual atmosphere -- or should I say, no amosphere. Huge menu at affordable prices. Near the Sacramento zoo.

Great Chinese food - very good prices - it has a wide variety of dishes, try the Chinese dumplings they were very good. Also has set menus. The atmosphere was average for a Chinese restaurant in Sacramento.

My wife and I eat at the Macau 8 or 10 times a year and never grow tired on it. The clientele is almost entirely Chinese. We are normally the only "Europeans" eating there. I always consider that a good sign. The service is a bit spotty and the wait staffs' command of English is not outstanding, but the food!!!. The potstickers are made fresh while you wait and I have never had better honey walnut shrimp. If you just order food, I would say $10-12 per person is about as much as you might spend.

Some people may not realize that Macau was a Portugese enclave in China, the equivalent of Hong Kong, that--like Hong Kong--has been made a special administrative region of China since its takeover in 1999. The Portugese influence is still strong in Macau and there are menu items that reflect that culturally mixed heritage.

First off, there are no sweet and sour chicken balls to be had here. This place is authentic and fairly affordable.

We came here for lunch with 2 young kids and ordered chicken fried noodles (shanghai noodles) and fried tofu. Very tasty and the waitresses were very accommodating.

If you're not sure what to eat, ask them for suggestions. They are only too eager and friendly to help. Pictures on the walls depict some of their dishes that can be ordered. You really can't go wrong with any of the food from the menu.

So eat here and enjoy some authentic Chinese/Macanese food rather than going next door to eat sandwiches. : )

Had dinner with friends at Macau Cafe. We ordered several dishes. The salted & baked crab dish was very tasty as was the green beans and beef dish. The fried tofu dish was ok as was the walnut prawns and the greens. Overall, the food was good. They don't have a good selection of wine or beer; byob. We will come back.
