“better than expected, really nice stop over”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2014

After staying at various hotels while traveling, we were really surprised how nice, clean and friendly this hotel was. Great location, right off the 5, near beautiful parks and close to downtown. Was definitely above my expectations and way better than most of the on the road overnights we've done in the last couple of years

My husband and I have stayed here a lot over the last 15 to 16 months. We started out very pleased with the hotel itself, the front desk staff, the rooms and the price. On our recent stay this month we were disappointed. The price is unchanged, as is the front desk staff. However, when we walked into our room we were surprised: on the window was a large, gloppy circle of something that had then dripped down toward the window sill; all four hinges of both cabinet doors concealing the mini-fridge in the room were broken and the doors were just hanging. Every time we wanted something in the fridge we would have to hold onto the doors and then put them back in place. When I turned on the lamp by my side of the bed I noticed a stack of dust that fell onto my pillow when I bumped the lamp shade.
None of the above would be a deal breaker for our return to this hotel, but it is a change from what has been. Our hope is this is not a sign of things to come.

We were transitioning from Amtrak to the airport and needed a nights accomodation somewhere between. This worked out perfect.A free shuttle to pick us up at the train station and then take us to the airport the next day.Breakfast was good.Room clean and comfortable.Wi fi in the room was really slow.Computer in the lobby is much faster.
Make sure you ask for the side away from the 24hr. McDonalds. The drive through is right outside the window.
Overall,a decent place.Reasonably priced and well staffed.

Terrific value for the price, room large and impeccably clean, very quiet for such a large facility, flat screen t.v., mini fridge under cabinet, all the standard amenities .. Coffee maker, iron & ironing board, no complaints about breakfast.. Plenty of selections.. Will definitely return to Govenor's Inn

Had doubts based on lower reviews, but since we only needed 1 night's accommodation during weekday, we booked a room for less than $100. We had late check-in, front desk clerk was personable and the process was quick and easy. It's right off the highway. There's a McDonald's next door and a Denny's across the street so it's convenient for munchies. General area seemed good.

Front grounds - clean, ample parking
Front lobby - wide open area w/seating; vending machines in front of elevators
Hallways - wide and long similar to casino halls and carpet
Room - on 3rd floor, CLEAN throughout, even the bathroom (no visible mold that I noticed). We had double queen (more like a full), standard stuff like mini fridge (it was in the cabinet under the coffee maker), flat screen TV, A/C, ironing board, hair dryer. There was also a ceiling fan and plantation shutters instead of drapes/curtains. McDonald's was visible from our window. Bed was comfortable, bedding clean and crisp.
Breakfast included for overnight guests - danish, bagels, waffles, fresh apples, apple juice, oj, H2O, milk, coffee, dry cereal, oatmeal. Dining room wide, plenty seats, TV. Quiet and simple.
Gym - was closed when we arrived.

20 mins drive to Sac State from hotel at 7:30am on weekday during traffic (we were unfamiliar with the roads but it took us 20 mins).

Drawbacks - Wi-Fi was very slow. Shower sliding door was narrow making exiting the shower stall a little tight. There was a faint "hotelly" smell (it's hard to describe, but I've also noticed it in other hotels more expensive than this one; it was tolerable; just keep the A/C on low and it's barely noticeable).

I would stay here again.
