“Disappointed with Leland Stanford Mansion”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

On the outside, it looks like an old haunted house and is not, in my opinion, attractive. The docent whom we met when we entered was sort of strange and remained that way throughout the tour. The inside of the house is not particularly attractive, especially after having visited the Governor's Mansion, which is beautiful. The only room that I thought was lovely was the bedroom where foster children once lived. It was bright and clean and very nice, unlike the other rooms. The only positive thing I can say is that there was no charge to get in.

“Lovely Victorian home”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Stanford was such a historical figure in California history it is well worth visiting his home. When I moved to Sacramento is was a home for orphans. Now it has been restored and is really lovely. You can also see the memorial stain glass window given in memory of their only child at St. Paul's on J street. Beautiful glass work.

“A nice surprise!”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

I was very impressed. I saw it today and it was free admission. Far more entertaining than I expected. It turns out that California Governors use it for official receptions because California does not have an operational Governors Mansion. Schwartzenegger used it a lot and Jerry Brown uses it as well. One thing I didn't see was nearby Bike racks. I ride my bike a lot and come to expect it in Sacramento. The one hour tour is great and I guarantee you will love it. It starts on the third floor that is accessed by an elevator. The tour then meanders to bottom floor.
