We were doing our usual food court scouting in Terminal 1 at the Sacramento International Airport last week. Nothing caught our eye...until we spied the Lemon Grass Vietnamese cubicle. The server seemed eager to please and offered details about the different dishes. Pho, that wonderful Vietnamese soup, was there, as were tofu and chicken spring rolls.
We had a guest with us who had never eaten Asian food, much less Pho. But, he was willing to try. I wish I had a camera to record the pleasure that he got as he inhaled the perfumes from the cilantro, basil, and all the different sauces. He did not leave one spoonful and walked away as a Pho convert.
We chose tofu and chicken spring rolls but decided to save them for the plane trip. What a surprise! They were so fresh that the curly red leaf lettuce was as fresh as if it had been just picked.
I marvel at the determination that it must have taken to open this small stand at the airport. I can only imagine the regulations, the fees, the costs and the work to make the Lemon Grass happen. Now that I have read about it, I learn that there are other Lemon Grass locations in Sacramento and Arizona. If they are this good, we may have to try the original in the city.
Congratulations to the owners and staff for taking airport food way above the ordinary.
