Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento

although this is a rather small storefront museum showing cutting edge work, the curator or whomever is at the museum will make it very alive for tourists. the best way to considering exploring this new museum is to check out their website-www.ccasac.org. try to catch a Second Saturday evening reception when all the art galleries are open- that is option one- option two would be to attend an artist lecture. the museum is free -tues-sat 12-5- second saturday 6-9p.m.some might say this is more art gallery than museum but it has museum status. axis, sudio, bows gallery. the sol collective and and -12 other art galleries are within a 10 block radius. 1519 19th street-this storefront museum is in midtown, the hip artistic, gay friendly community of sacramento often referred to as midtown- it maybe the most treesy part of sacramento dubbed the tree capitol of north america but you really feel it in midtown- if you cannot go there on a second saturday or a lecture-try to combine it with dinner at ernesto's or shabu japanese fondue/bombay bar and grill within close walking distance.aftewards, you might want to sample the sacramento night scene. go to downtowngrid.com. also google in harlow's and faces. one is for people under 30, the latter gets the gay/lesbian crowd. locals should become members because they can visit over 500 museums in america gratis- this is a legitimate museum, although boutique in nature. not like the Tequila Museum , a bar or the Broadcasting museum in carmichael, a repair shop. Young artists working with experimental media are not going to get their work into the modern wing of the Crocker Art Museum. WE think within 5 years they will have a larger location as they get discovered first by locals and eventually tourists who will want to see what makes Midtown the Greenwich Village of Sacramento or rather the Brooklyn Heights of Sacramento. sine the cost is free and you wil lprobably be teated as a vip, it's worth the detour but follows our suggested options to make it wothwhile. .
