“Old town Sac”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

This place is in the perfect location for visiting Old town Sacramento within walking distance to everything. The evening reception was great! The rooms are very clean and spacious. Breakfast is pretty good. Overall our family enjoyed our stay here and we would stay here again.

Conveniently located right next to Old Town Sacramento. Nice Suite arrangement for grandma and three grandchildren. Breakfast and evening snacks were nicely arranged but lacking in taste and variety. Room air conditioner was noisy. Had to call for enough bath towels. You would think they would have at least one per guest. There is a nice indoor swimming pool, but why don't they think to provide hooks to hang your swimsuit on after swimming. There are not even towel bars to hang bath towels. Everyone is concerned about laundry in hotels- who wants to use a wet towel?

We spent one night at this hotel on our way up to Lake Tahoe and we were impressed with how helpful and nice the staff was at this location. The room was prefect! The location was great for walking to dinner. If there was a negative...it would be the $30 parking fee, however, we only had to call the front desk and our car was waiting for us when we got downstairs. Overall I give this property A or 10 ...whichever way you look at ratings.

This Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and had a great view. Very enjoyable and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or advise others to stay there as well. We bikes right out of the Hotel to the Bike Path and rode 51 miles returning to comfort and a pampered environment. All in all, this Hotel helped to make the trip a beautiful memory.

Not luxury by any measurement, but for a solid suite experience where the two room accommodation is a cut above a one room hotel, Embassy Suites in Sacramento does a great job. Room was clean, well appointed, had the Embassy Suites mini kitchen with bar sink, fridge and microwave, an extra 'living room' and the A/C kept us cool while making minimal noise. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Complimentary breakfast wasn't extensive, but the food was fresh and plentiful. All in all, a great experience.

My husband and I made Sacramento the first stop on a 6 state road trip, and a night at the Embassy Suites Riverfront Promenade was a great way to relax and recharge! The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet (we requested a river view, which faces away from the noisy I-5 freeway). Embassy Suites offers a wonderful complimentary happy hour and a delicious complimentary breakfast - great money savers when on vacation. And as always with Hilton properties, the bed was very comfortable!

As nice as the hotel and amenities were, the best feature is it's location. The capitol, old town, shopping and restaurants are all within minutes of walking. We valeted our car at the hotel and didn't need it again until we left the next day. And before hitting the road, we went for an energizing morning run along the riverfront bike path (also very conveniently located to the hotel).

Room Tip: One of the buildings 4 sides faces the noisy I-5 freeway. Request one of the other 3. A river view...

This is one of the nicer Embassy Suites overall. And if you are planning a visit to Sacramento it is a short walk to Old Town and the famous Tower Bridge. With two young kids this was a great choice when we didn't want to spend time drving around. We could walk to the train, for example.

As others have noted, the room we stayed in was in great shape. Compared to a couple other ES we have visited this is worth noting. The beds were comfortable and roomy. The only downside was we had an adjoining room (adjoined to someone we didn't know and there certainly was noise that could come through the door in the living room (a minor issue since that's where the kids slept). So I would request a non-adjoining room next time. Freeway noise was not an issue for us but for some I could see requesting a room not facing the freeway.

We were on the premium floor (4th). What that gets you is access to a vending machine with water and snacks. The problem is this is a family hotel on weekends and that poor machine was worked over and picked clean. So when it did work (which was not regularly) it was quickly stripped clean of everything. They also need to do a better job of telling people how to use the machine. It has a card slot but you don't need a card. You need to enter the code and then make a selection. Can't tell you how many people (including me) missed that part and were helped by other guests.

Like the ES near our home this hotel also does a booming weekend business in weddings and family events. So don't expect a quiet stay on weekends (can't speak to weekdays). This also means the pool is packed at prime kid-time and the free drinks in the evening is a mob scene which did not bring out the best in the staff (one bartender was playing the role of the Soup Nazi- "you don't know what drink you want? Next!"). Not acceptable. The drinks are free but we are paying to stay here. The evening food was what you would expect, perhaps adjusted a bit for the more family crowd- as was the adjustment to plastic cups over wine glasses (a minor issue but I really would prefer glass- the other ES hotels seem top pull it off).

Breakfast was what you would expect. It is certainly good enough with eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and omlette station and the usual drinks. Apparently breakfast is worthy of glasses - a nice touch. Plus while they issue breakfast vouchers they do not really seem to care if you have one (just toss it in the box when you enter) so no hassles if you don't have yours handy.

Overall, the people there are good. Not the best service overall (it took 3 requests to get a crib) and it felt like they were overwhelmed by the parties going on there (even though the woman at check-in said it was like that every weekend). As noted earlier, there was a bit of that indifference I hate to see in people in the service industry. Things happened eventually but with too much prodding for a hotel at this price point. Again, I get you are giving us free drinks but hold the attitude, please. We have a right to pause to read the drink menu after waiting on line for a while (no, couldn't read it from line).

We would come back again but would love to see the service stepped up a bit.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with adjoining doors. Try to avoid rooms that face the freeway- it is not a big deal bu...
