Awesome place. We have been here several times when visiting. Great exhibits including plenty of trains & cars you can walk through. Come here on the weekends and ride the steam engine along the Sacramento River.

“just plain fun”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Son very much into trains and this is the perfect way to casually get it done with a clean, fun environment. Lots to see and in the summer the river train is running along the Delta. Lots of fun places to eat and drink.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

I wasn't sure a railroad museum would keep my interest... But this one is so well done I was engaged the entire time. We spent 1 1/2 hours there and could have stayed longer but they close at 5. I especially loved the 20 minute movie, it brought those early years to life. Several of the train cars you can walk through and they have knowledgeable docents nearby to answer any questions. We didn't even get to the second floor where all the displays of you trains are located. Would recommend 2-3 hours.

“Incredible Fun for kids (and parents)”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We toured the Railroad Museum with our 5 and 3 year old kids who both love trains. They had a blast. It's a huge place with a ton of engines from the heyday of the railroad industry as well as model trains and more. The kids were excited to just be in the environment and the history and tidbits we picked up along the way entertained the grown-ups.

Highly recommend this place. Really a must while you're in Sacramento.

It's also right in Old Town, which is also a must while you're visiting Sacramento.
