I have been here several hundred times. It isn't super close or super convenient, and still it is something we do often. The Membership is an incredible value and I would recommend it to anyone with kids, an interest in trains, an interest in history, or an interest in technology.

Goodness, the train ride is slow and short and very boring. Not worth the money at all, dont waste your time, You really see NOTHING. Back and forth the same way, same route as the highway. Visit the museum, but avoid the train trip unless you have small children who many never have been on a train.

If you love trains, this place is awesome! I have been coming here for over 10 years. Honestly, it hasn't changed much (which might make it boring for the adults after coming more than once) but bringing my son has made it new and fresh again. This place is great for kids, especially if they love trains (as mine does).

There is a decent amount of historical information (for those history buffs) but there is also a lot of interactive exhibits. There are vintage train cars you can look in to, engines from different eras and lines, a reproduction of an old telegraph station, a produce car, an engine you can actually get into and sit in the seat, a mail car (that you can walk through and hope you get one of the docents who loves their job because they can tell you ALL KINDS of cool things), a dining car with kitchen and examples of various china and place-settings for different eras and lines, there is the upstairs children's area that has a large Thomas play table and last but not least, and certainly our family favorite, the vintage sleeper car that actually moves as though it is traveling, including sounds. Every time we have been, there has been a super sweet docent who was willing to answer any question we had and loved to talk to my son. Most of the docents there are very nice and love to talk about their passion.

So again, it hasn't changed much over the years, but seeing it through a child's eyes make it a whole new experience.

This was about my 4th time visiting the museum so it wasn't as spectacular as the first visit. I love trains. My kids love trains. They enjoyed the museum but it wasn't the highlight of our CA trip.
The museum is VERY well equipped with old train relics, engines, information. I especially love that the old roundhouse is part of the actual musuem. To date, it's the best train museum I've ever seen.
