“This museum is on the right track”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

We visited on a rainy week day and enjoyed our visit. They have a lot of displays, and an excellent and informative movie. The friendly and knowledgeable docents really enhance the experience. They also have a well stocked gift store and the prices are reasonable. We spent half a day there and didn’t see everything. It only costs $9 for adults so we will be going back. One of the things I enjoyed most was the dining car with place settings and menus from different rail lines. The museum is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking nearby.

“You don't have to be a train-crazy kid to love this place!”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

A lot of BIG machines, some of them very shiny, all in one place. What's not to love? The interval between my recent visit and the previous one was (too many) years, and the Museum has grown in both size and sophistication. There are many individual locomotives and various cars and service vehicles, inside and outside of the large halls. Most are placed in context by, at the least, signs and descriptions, and at best by exhibits and displays around them. We had a family group ranging from 2 to 60 years old and there was something to talk about everywhere you looked. The most interesting effect of this museum visit was to see the older folks in lively conversations with younger folks about the role of trains in their lives. This Museum brings people of all ages together.

“Well-presented and participatory”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Excellent hands-on displays of railroad history, from minecarts to the transcontinental railway to freight and gilded luxury. Reasonable entrance fee, extensive book collection, and supplemental exhibits. Lots of fun for any age.

“Great Railroad Museum”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Well worth a visit. Great chance to get up close to some real monster machines. Great value. Real retired steam engine drivers on hand to talk about their times on the job.
