We struggled to understand just how much of this area was truly original, how much had been "restored" and how much had been created to build the illusion of a few blocks of "Old" Sacramento. The area is surrounded by the modern city & some busy roads. Having said that, it was very pleasant to wander around the shops, cafes etc and soak up whatever one could of an olde worlde. The railway siding, the paddle-steamer moored on the river and some of the old block warehouses do just enough to make sure that it's a bit more than a tourist shopping experience.
