Old Town Sacramento is a must visit for both "locals" and tourists. It gives one the feeling of what it may have been like in the old days when California was a growing society.

I really liked this part of Sacramento, because there was a special feeling when going there. You felt like in one of the Western Movies when walking across the wooden floor. The Old Sacramento is built up like it was in the 1800s.
Also at around 6.15pm on Saturday, they had a light show which explained the history of Sacramento including the buildings located near the Steamers Café. I checked, this show is a annual event, only happening during November and December. Check the webpage for more information, when you're interested.
When visiting Sacramento you shouldn't miss this great part of the city.

Old Sacramento is a great place to spend an afternoon with family, and friends. There are shops, museums and restaurants to keep you busy; it has an "out of town" feel without having to drive 100's of miles from Sacramento. Very nice boardwalk and excellent views on the waterfront.

We went on Dec 22nd Sunday. I didn't know about the Christmas play/event involving the battle of Santa Claus and Jack Frost. It was awesome. This site has three museums, a train station, excellent views on the waterfront, many stores, shops and eating places. There are also several shops where you can get the famous flat penny pressed souvenir. Parking can be a challenge if you go at a busy time also note many places close at 5PM i.e. the Wells Fargo Museum, Railroad Museum and the underground tour is not open year around. This is a must do when you are in town. I would allow yourself at least 4 hours plus an additional 30 minutes for in and out parking. If you love sweets, ice cream, donuts, popcorn you will be in heaven! The Polar Express Train Ride Experience was also in full operation! Is this a tourist trap...YES it is but you have to do this because it is part of Sacramento!
