Owner description: Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

“Amazing visit to Frogs Leap”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

I decided to surprise my girlfriend by getting engaged in Napa during a surprise trip to wine country (she didn't know I was going to be there). I wanted a winery with ties to our joint alma mater, had wines we really enjoyed and the held similar values.

I reached out to Frogs Leap and they did an amazing job helping me setup my engagement! I was arrived on my flight only a few hours before I was supposed to pop the question and they already had everything setup for me. The staff was remarkably friendly and totally went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for us! Thanks to everyone there!

Once we were engaged, we spent a good amount of time enjoying their beautiful grounds (they are very open to allowing you to roam), take their tour (which was informative even for people with a decent amount of wine background) and sit around finishing a bottle above and beyond what we drank upon getting engaged and the tour.

Very highly recommended

“Lovely, laid back winery”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

We visited Frogs Leap at the recommendation of our private winery tour guide, and were not disappointed! Although it was December, it was a beautiful sunny day to sit on the porch and taste wine, and then to tour the gardens. The servers were friendly and the wine was good. Definitely a place we'll return on another visit to wine country!

“Gorgeous setting for wine tasting”
Reviewed December 23, 2013

We went to Frog's Leap for the Signature Seating Tasting and were wowed as soon as we walked in by the gorgeous reception area with log fire and huge Christmas tree. We were seated straight away on the terrace (even though we were a little early) and brought the cheese plate which is a nice touch. I was the designated driver and so was brought a selection of flavoured waters to guess which was fun. The wines were brought over and lots of information given about each before we tasted them. It was a great setting and a good stop. We didn't buy any wines but it was well worth it for the experience. The tasting was $20 each (the waters were free) and included cheese plate (you could have more than one if you wished).

A lovely winery although the wines weren't to our tastes.

“Best Tasting”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

We showed up bright and early to Frog's Leap.. we were a large group of about 10 people and instead of being seated in the beautiful main building we were taken to a large outdoor table where we were treated to the most idyllic and generous tasting of our visit to Napa and Sonoma. There was still dew on the ground and the cool fall morning added to the special morning. There was no rush as the crowed increased and we were encouraged to linger, tour the grounds and pick the wild strawberries and anything else we came across. It really wasn't fair that this was our first stop because everything else that day felt a little less perfect. Highly recommended.

“Never disappoints!”
Reviewed November 24, 2013 via mobile

I have been visiting Frog's Leap for almost 20 years and their tour never disappoints. Their laid back approach is a welcome change to some of the more uppity wineries around. The grounds and buildings are beautiful. And their approach to organic vines, gardening and green buildings is nice to see. If you want an informative tour, learn about organic approaches to wine making and enjoy some good wine please visit The Frog. And tell Abby the winery dog we said hi!
