Owner description: Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

We had one of their wines at one of the local restaurants and decided to stop by. We opted for the "garden" tasting. We had a very relaxing time wandering the gardens, both vegetable and flower/shrub/tree areas. Tasting was at our leisure and we never felt pressured of hurried. It you have the time put this one on your list

This was our favorite winery out of several that we visited. We visited Sterling, Opus One, and a few others, but we really loved Frog's Leap Winery. The property is just beautiful. The home is gorgeous and the grounds are beautiful to walk around. We opted for the tasting out on the back porch and it was great. We had a few wines and some cheese and crackers and fruit and it was just perfect. We especially loved their focus on sustainability and their dry farm practice. It really is a wonderful practice.

A nice relaxed setting away from the hustle and bustle of all the big name wineries. We enjoyed the garden tasting which is $5 cheaper that the tasting inside. Plus you get to walk around the amazing vegetable and flower garden. We enjoyed walking the garden, sipping the wine and sitting at the various tables and chairs. You set you own pace for the tastings as you take your wine glass over to the pouring area as fast or slow as you want.

We opted for the Garden Tasting - $15 per person. We tasted 4 wines while exploring the gardens on our own and sitting comfortably in the lawn chairs watching other patrons play corn hole. We were able to request each wine at our convenience and were also able to revisit several that we liked. A very enjoyable afternoon!
(The garden experience does not include food pairings.)

This winery is a little different, you get a table and they bring you all 4 tastings at once, 1 white and 3 red for $20. The nice part is you get to hang at the table, some are community, but neither of us really liked any of the wines. The grounds are nice, but nothing special. I'd suggest you head down the road to Round Pond, it's truly amazing.
