Owner description: Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

“Ok, but busy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2012

We stopped here on a wine tour. If you're looking for personalized service, I'm not sure this is the place for it, unless you book a private tasting. They had a bar setup out back in the "garden" which is where we were served. You could get a glass and then wander the garden area with your glass and come back when you wanted. The garden area was very pretty, but all the seating was taken, and there wasn't any good places to stand, so we ended up on the side of a building which lacked a view. The servers were polite, but didn't seem to be very knowledgeable about the wine, they just poured it, told you the name and sent you on your way. Not bad if that's what you're looking for though.

“Wonderful house and terrace”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2012

We really enjoyed our tasting at Frog's Leap. It's a little smaller and less known that other vineyards, but house and terrace are fantastic and staff friendly. Wines were tasty as well, especially the Rutherford Cab.

“our 1st & favorite stop!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

This was the 1st winery we visited while in the area, and it was by far our favorite! The staff was very friendly and generous, and the property is absolutely beautiful. You can enjoy your tasting on the back deck at a private table, not easy to find in wine country!

“Take a pleasant break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2012

While the wines here are simply average, the hospitality is welcoming. Linger on the shaded patio with wine and a cheese plate and gaze out at the beautifully landscaped grounds. Or take a walk throughout the property. A relaxing, refreshing break.

“Great place for wine tasting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2012

Frog's Leap does a great job of providing you with a great wine tasting experience. The staff is friendly and educational, and the wines are great. It was so nice relaxing on their beautiful back porch, munching on aged Gouda, nuts, and dried cherries while sampling the wine. The setting and entire experience is very relaxing. We will definitely be back.
