Owner description: Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

It is so pleasant sitting outside at the house on the property. Our server was so knowledgeable about the wine and shared funny anecdotes and lots of history. The setting is beautiful and the tasting is affordable with generous pours and a bit of food.

This was our favorite winery we visited. Seth was our tour guide. We didn't feel rushed and he gave us all sorts of interesting details and stories. And you get generous pours of the wine along the way. We didn't do a tasting but there were quite a few people out on the porch. Perfect setting like being in someone's home.

The wines are good, not great. However, the tour is uniquely informative and interesting (wines are served along the tour route), so it is a good option for newbies or those looking for something a little more interactive than a typical stand-around tasting.

This was my favorite winery in Napa. I was a first time visitor and this was our second tasting of five. Upon arrival, we learned that we need a reservation (which our driver had already made). Frog's Leap's vineyard house is like you're visiting someone's house! We sat on the front porch in furniture looked like it was from Crate & Barrel facing the neighbor's winery...this is where our tasting occurred. I also took some time to walk around the winery and there were some cute barns, gardens, fountains, etc. It has a very country and cozy feel to it. If I remember correctly, there was a fireplace area inside the vineyard house with chairs as well. There was also a Wirehaired Pointing Griffin dog, Abbey, which is a rare sight. Our family has three of these dogs, so we felt even more at home. Abbey was very very sweet.

As far as the tasting, we had four wines for $20 and a cheese plate. I really enjoyed a majority of the wines...and we loved the cheese plate as well. :) The server set up our tasting, gave us a run down of what was in front of us, and then left us to taste on our own. However, she checked up on us often and answered questions for us about the wines and winery. The other staff were also friendly and laid-back.

The bottles were not expensive...from $14-$75 per bottle, with a majority between $14 and $42.

I definitely want to return to this winery on my next visit to Napa. I liked everything about it, from the property, the wines, the tasting, and the general cozy feel.

The grounds are lovely and serene. We wanted to move in! The tasting is wonderful and they provided "treats": a large platter of nuts, berries, breadsticks and cheese. It all went so well with the wines presented. Our host spent a great deal of time with us ... and we were able to learn while relaxing. Ahhhhhh
