Owner description: Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

Frog's Leap is our favorite winery in Napa. Great tour (and the solar power, dry farming and organic farming is really interesting). And the people are great -- very warm and friendly, and exceptionally nice, even when they are busy. John Williams, the owner, is hilarious if he happens to be around and contributes to your tour.

I organized a girl's trip to Sonoma/Napa in August 2010 for myself and 5 others. We already had 3 appointments set up for us in Napa but heard that Frog's Leap was neat Winery to visit so we dropped in with out an appointment. Peter, one of the associates, greeted us and was super accomodating. He set up a tasting for us at large dining room table inside the farm house which sat next to a wall of doors of windows that opened up to the outside. While we waited we were able to tour the grounds on our own ans see the farm, vegtable and fruit garden along with the bee hives that they were working on. Very Cool! Peter even set up a cheese/cracker plate for us and since we all purchased wine the tasting was on the house! Overall an amazing experience especially considering we didnt have a reservation. Oh and regarding the wine.....The Zinfandel and Cabernet were delish but I especially loved the petite syrah. :)

I really liked this winery - we did the tour and tasting. Their property is outstanding, one of my favorites. The tour starts in their beautiful farmhouse with a glass of sauvignon blanc. There's a cat and a very friendly dog greeting you as well. The tour then takes you through their gardens, into their fermentation room, barrel room and back to the farmhouse – always pouring a glass of wine at each stop. We got to pick and eat fresh strawberries and raspberries out of their garden – a nice treat. Our guide was really informative - he told us great stories about the vineyard and how it got to where it is today. After the tour was over we hung around some more on the back porch and got to try a few more wines. The wine was good, we ended up buying a bottle of their Syrah.

Do not miss this place! You need an appointment because they seat you at a table and do not rush you. My husband had been communicating with them by email before the trip but didn't actually make the appointment. However, we stopped by hoping for the best. They accomodated us in 10 minutes. We had our sons, 9 and 11 with us and that was also no problem. They hung out with the resident cat who was very friendly while we waited. Tasting was $20 but included a cheese, fruit, nut and cracker plate. They gave my kids organic juice packets. Then our server invited them to explore the garden, pick berries and eat what they wanted. We were encouraged to slowly enjoy our wine and walk the gardens as well with our glass if we wished. So relaxing and the wine was great!
