We were driving by Cakebread Cellars and decided to stop on a whim. It was great! Instead of standing at a bar for the tasting, you give you a tour through the winery, with tastings along the way. The guide was super friendly, he even opened an expensive bottle at the end of our tour as a special treat. It was probably the best wine tasting we had ever been on.

While the Cakebread wines are very, very good, our experience with their wine tasting was disappointing. We made a reservation for a tasting of their Reserve wines and thought it would be a private tasting for our group of 4. The tasting was held in a very small room with a stand-up only bar and no seating. After we had started our tasting and had a couple of different wines another couple was brought in to join our group. Since we had already sampled some wine it divided the wine educators time to have two different groups. Our particular wine educator seemed most interested in discussing his personal achievements and the conversation seemed to always float back to something he was doing or had done. The conversation was not good and with no place to sit down it became very uncomfortable and we were all happy to leave. But, their wines were very, very good. They did offer a chance to give feedback, so I really hope they will improve their "private, scheduled" wine tastings.

If you know anything about wine, the red wine tasting experience will surely disappoint you. After being shuffled into a curtain-enclosed tasting area to stand at a long bar, our host Barb served several refrigerated red wines directly from the cooler - too cold to offer a good tasting experience. Looking perplexed, our host told us to "warm it in our hands". Information about the wines came from a printed card - the host seemed more interested in knowing where everyone was from than sharing knowledge about the wines or the vineyard. With so many other vineyards to choose from, spend your $30 elsewhere.

Cakebread was by far the best tasting wine we had during out trip, we ordered 6 bottles to be delivered to NY. Reservations are required, be on time. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the person giving the wine tasting was so friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot. Would definitely return for a more in depth tasting/tour. Download wineryfinder app on your phone and you can save $5-10 on your tasting!

The host from Cakebread takes you to your own area where they talk you through all of the wines you're tasting. Our host was incredibly energetic and shared his love of wine with us. It was difficult to not be caught up in his enthusiasm for the vineyard. The property is really beautiful
