The host from Cakebread takes you to your own area where they talk you through all of the wines you're tasting. Our host was incredibly energetic and shared his love of wine with us. It was difficult to not be caught up in his enthusiasm for the vineyard. The property is really beautiful

The person giving the wine tasting was knowledgeable, but he knew it. At other wineries we had people who were knowledgeable but very accommodating. Still, the information we received was good. In other wineries we were in nicer areas. This was an area in a barn behind a curtain. Our son wanted to purchase two bottles of very expensive wine because he really likes that particular wine. Because we were at one one of the more expensive tastings, he thought that was the one that a free goblet came with. He simply asked, when he took out his money, if there was a goblet that came with the tasting. The salesperson was rude beyond rude - so much so - that someone we didn't know who was standing next to us, spoke up. The salesperson deliberately left our son and went on to wait on someone else. If you are out for an enjoyable afternoon, and if you are putting down a considerable amount of money for wine, you don't expect treatment like this. I would back up what other people have said. If you like the wine, buy it at your store but skip this tasting. We especially liked the Sonoma Valley tastings where people were very friendly, the settings were attractive, and the prices for tasting were far less.

The Cakebread wines are well known, for good reason. What is even better is visiting the winery. You need to make an appointment, but that helps control the crowds and ensures you get to know the wines and can enjoy actually seeing the property. The Select tasting offers samples of red and white. Make sure you have time for the gift shop too.

We took the in-depth tour. If was interesting, informative, and fun! We tasted some great wines at the end of the tour, and bought enough to get into trouble. Highly recommend!

Cakebread wines are really, really good. They might be a bit overpriced but, certainly worth a taste. The people who work there are nice. Start with a tasting at Cakebread and then go down the road to the Rutherford Grill for dinner. Yum!
