Owner description: Grgich Hills Estate is an iconic Napa Valley winery, consistently producing world-class wines. Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko "Mike" Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France. Mike then partnered with Austin Hills to open their family-owned-and-operated winery in 1977. Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, we farm our five estate vineyards without artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, rely on wild yeast fermentation and use our passion and art to handcraft food-friendly, balanced and elegant wines.

“We Need To Go Back.....”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Grgich Hills wine has been one of our favorites for many years, and we made it at point to stop at the winery during our recent visit to Napa. As we were pressed for time, we chose one of the standard walk in tasting options covering the Red Estate Wines. Our wine educator did an excellent job and took the time to explain the finer points (covering aroma, flavors, and after taste) for each selection. In addition he provided a lot of great history regarding Mike Grgich's vision and formula for producing fine wines. Overall we had a very good tasting experience and would highly recommend a stop

Note: If we had more time we would have booked a full winery tour with one of the cheese or chocolate pairings or the seated library experience. That said, we need to go back.......

“Exceptional experience”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Winemaker Mike Grgich had gained international recognition at the historic Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 when the Chardonnay he produced at Chateau Montelena won first prize among white wines. I understand that there is a movie about the win.
We visited in late Sept during the harvest. We had a wonderful guide who was knowledgeable, witty, charming and an expert!!!
The tasting was held in the Library room, which was beautiful and well appointed as well as comfortable. Each wine was tasted, spoken about, and then paired with fruit, cheese and or nuts. We were tutored in the best foods to serve with each wine.
Apparently there are many pretentious folks in the world of wine. Our guide, who travels the world for his company, told some refreshing anecdotal tales. When asked at what temperature to serve wine,he said most would say 55 degrees, but drink it at the temp that YOU prefer!!!
It was a great day and I joined the wine club and look forward to receiving our first shipment of very special Grgich Hills Estate wine!

“Wonderful tasting”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

My husband and I booked a chocolate/wine pairing and it was outstanding. Jeff gave us a great tour of the winery he was very informative and knew all the workings of the winery very well. Our tasting was private and in one of their beautiful tasting rooms. It was a great tasting very generous pouring and the wines are exceptional. I recommend booking a tasting before you go they have a variety of options.

“Good wines not the best tasting”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Grgich estates supplies nice wines, nothing exceptional. Went in October, granted the harvest season but stopped at 6 other wineries. This was the poorest tasting. The staff was stretched, uninterested. Gave you the glasses at the end but other wineries are much more considerate

We were very surprised to read your review of our staff as being uninterested. We hire people who love wine and love meeting people Could you tell us more about the problems you encountered and if you remember the name of the person who poured for you?

Thank you for your visit and for letting us know that you did not have a great experience. We are always working to improve and glad that you enjoyed the wines.

Sincerely,

Ken Morris

“Beautiful winery”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We wanted to visit Grgich Hills because we watched the movie which was the story of how the winery won the 1976 Paris Tasting. The winery is gorgeous and the wine is truly delicious.
