Owner description: Grgich Hills Estate is an iconic Napa Valley winery, consistently producing world-class wines. Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko "Mike" Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France. Mike then partnered with Austin Hills to open their family-owned-and-operated winery in 1977. Committed to natural winegrowing and sustainability, we farm our five estate vineyards without artificial fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, rely on wild yeast fermentation and use our passion and art to handcraft food-friendly, balanced and elegant wines.

“Busy, but very knowledgable staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2012

We had called ahead to see if we needed an appointment for 6 and they told us to come by any time. We came right over and it was packed! We didnt get any service for about 20 minutes and then the service was slow after that. But the staff was helpful when they were around and the wines were fantastic. I'd definitely recommend a visit, but maybe not on a Saturday when they're so busy!

“Wine and Chocolate...what could be better?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2012

Recently I had the pleasure of attending a Wine and Chocolate "Experience" at Grgich Hills Estate Winery in Rutherford, California's Napa Valley region. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours. The wines selected by Dominic, our expert guide, were all wonderful, and the pairings with each different chocolate and fruit (cranberry, apricot, raisin, etc) were "spot on!" We had our experience in the private Library at Grgich Hills, sitting around a beautifully appointed table. Whats not to like?! I'm looking forward to my next trip to Napa, one of the reasons being the chance to try this "Experience" again. Dominic and the staff at Grgich Hills Estate were all friendly and extremely knowledgable. 2 Thumbs Up!

“Nice wines and conversation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2012

Had a great time tasting at Grgich. We got the usual history of Mike Grgich, and the winery, but when we showed a lot of interest in really discussing, our pourer really went to work. He spent a lot of time discussing harvesting techniques, yields, and the crush process. He pulled out a couple extra wines to taste, that weren't on the tasting menu, which were fantastic. We will continue to buy Grgich wines, and this type of experience only makes me more loyal to their brand.

“Pleasant surroundings, friendly staff and decent wines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2012

The wine tasting experience is fairly basic however you do get a good selection of wines to try. I found one tasting session between two was adequate (especially if you have a car to consider).

The staff seemed to be more interested in the taste of the wine rather than anything else and I didn't feel like I learnt anything in particular from them, however they were very knowledgable of the area and gave some great suggestions as to where to spend the rest of the afternoon.

Overall the service was very friendly and personable. We felt looked after and had a very pleasant experience however if you want a more educational wine tasting experience then this is not for you (however still worth a visit).

“What a fun time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

The wine here is quite good but most of all I liked our host who gave us our tasting tour. He was very enthusiastic and his passion for wine-drinking will rub off on you. You can take home your wine glass for free, but I suggest you take some bottles home with you as well.
